agrisoak is the same gel type stuff that is found in the humidifier jars sold by most shops. is absorbs and releases hence the need for the 50/50 solution to keep it at about 65-70 rh. after you treat it with the solution you then just have to add distilled water. when the crystals shrink...

why not just use agrisoak beads treated with a 50/50 solution? I used them in my fridgador with no problem at all keeping 68% lowes sells them in the plant section

it could be the box...depending on how long the box sat and how dry it was before you bought it it could take quite some time (and even longer in the winter season) to have the wood absorb moisture. I had one humidor take 2 months to season enough to hold humidity and not draw moisture out...
