What SMOKING music are you listening to? (2025)

Way back in the day - and I mean 57 years ago. My school had 3 dances a year and if you even wanted a chance to grind for 30 seconds with Katherine "Kat" Kraft this was the song you waited for:


And if you were really lucky you got a second chance when this came on:


That only happened to me once. After we moved her name would come up over the decades, Kat got married again, divorced again, went to rehab. I had no idea how much if any was true. Last night talking to a far flung cousin he mention that Kat had died last week. I hadn't thought of her in 20 years but that dance is what I remembered best

OK. I have mentioned my tastes is music are eclectic, right? So, Gershwin?

1. Best orchestral intro to the piece I’ve ever heard
2. She is definitely channeling Gershwin here
3. She is not hard on the eyes. Good Lord!

I think she may be one of those couple of times a century talents. She is amazingly good. Watched her do a dozen other pieces. Effortlessly.

For me, this is the bar.

 
I’m being eclectic again. There are iconic pieces of music … then their iconic renditions of them. Think Arturo Rubenstein and Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto.

So here is Van Cliburn winning the first Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow, at the height of the Cold War … at age 23! Read the Wikipedia article on it. Amazing.

This is other-worldly, don’t mind the old recording.


Enjoying with a short HC Maduro and some Amaretto, I was in a sweet mood today.
