Live Friday

J Geils Band, 'Blow Your Face Out' (1976)
THE party rock band of the 70's. You could not stay in your seat at a J, Geils band show. While most thought the front man was J. Giles he was really the guitarist very rarely commanding the spotlight. The guy out front was really Peter Wolf who was the lead singer from 1967-1983. Peter was actually a scholarship student at Tufts University as a painter. During his time at tufts he was in a local band that was fairly well known in the area opening for The Velvet Underground, Van Morrison and a number of blues legends like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and John Lee Hooker. Peter developed sing-song like rap with the auduance during the breaks between songs which lead him to get an offer to be the all night DJ on WBCN. Peter played a mix of Jazz, blues and blues-rock on his show and was heard by John "J" Geils who was also the leader of a band. After the breakup of that group J Giles started to put another band together and asked Peter to be the vocalist, The rest they say is history. The J Geils Blues Band formed in 1967 and shortened their name to The J Geils Band shortly before their first record was released in 1970. The other notable member of the group was harmonica player extraordinaire Magic Dick (Richard Salwitz).
