Used to be a standby for me as well, but like you I've been trying other stuff that's more reasonable in price. There is some truly great stuff out there for <$8 if you catch good sales, and plenty of good but not great cigars can be had under $5.

I have a couple of the Zippo double torch inserts, they're okay but the tank seems rather small. I had a Thunderbird soft flame pipe insert for Zippo years ago that I loved for that use, but lost it at some point. I think my next purchase will be a flat flame torch.
