    Lips, Teeth or Both?

Depends on the size of the cigar. I tend to chew larger cigars but have made a conscience effort not to do this anymore. I believe that I get a better draw if I don't spit-up the end of the cigar and crush it down with my teeth.

    Graduation

I am going to a graduation on the 23rd. I will be wearing the black rode while the "kiddies" (18 years old) will be wearing white. I anticipate being given at least one Cuban cigar like I have been handed for the last few years by grateful parents. On the other hand I am taking a long a well...

How long to store my Padron before smoking?

This mirrors my experiences. I will not smoke a cigar right from the shop or shipper any more. I let everything rest between 2 weeks and 1 month in the humidor before I generally touch it. I find the Padron 000 line improve and benefit from at least 6 months of aging in a proper humidor.

    Candela wrappers

About a year ago I bought some candela wrapper cigars from La Gloria Cubana. They were quite good. When I went back a few months later to get more they weren't in stock and I have not seen them since. I too would like to have a better selection of candela wrapper cigars that are not gas station...

What kind of stock do you keep?

I have a few hundred cigars on hand at any given time. As to stock. I like to keep at least two full boxes of Padron 5000 Maduros and two full boxes of La Gloria Cubana Serie R #5 in the humidor at all times. I likely have a few hundred assorted others.

    Pre-Embargo Counterfeit Cuban Edicion Limitada

Here is my thoughts on these. I had wanted to try these for some time. Last year, about this time, I visited Perdomos in Miami Lakes. I priced the box but decided to hold off. An hour later I was at Mike's in Bal Harbour and noticed the same box of 50 for much less so I picked it up. My...

Help me choose my next cigar purchase....

I am really enjoying the Flor de Oliva bundled cigars. They are strangely sweet and strong. Very appealing.

Newbee question- What makes the Torpedo so popular?

I also like the fact that you can very much tailor the shape of the tip.

Newbee question- What makes the Torpedo so popular?

We saw this man finishing the wrappers on torpedo shaped cigars at El Credito a few weeks back. These were natual wrapper La Gloria Cubana being made that day. It appeared that the best, most experienced rollers were in fact the ones working on the torpedo. Note the stack of rolled cigars ready...

    Seriously Impressed with Padron

I love the Padron cigars so much that I make regular trips to Padron's in Little Havana to replenish the stash. The above photo was taken by a member of the Padron family at their little reception area inside their Miami (Little Havana) headquarters. I am in the middle. Please note the hand...

Quick Report On My Visit To Thompson's Retail Store

Yeah, I am going to complete a bundle and then write up my thoughts in a review. I think they are going to replace the Consuegra as my yard mowing cigar! If I can get them for under $2 like I did at Thompson's.

    Outlet Priced Cigars

In this area BJs has a few cigars in their liqour stores at moderate prices. As to over priced cigars, well I have a reasonable stash at home so the urge to splurge on a cigar when I am out is usually killed by the thought that I have enough to get me going when I get home. I almost never travel...

    Replacement Stems?

Actually, I am looking for an online source as I have struck out with the local guys.

    Perdomo Reserve, Champagne

Ver nice review. I have smoked a number of these in the last few years. My experiences totally conincide with those posted in the review. I consider these cigars to be the best of the cigars produced by Perdomo. For my particular tastes I felt this cigar was too mild to the point that I began to...

    Replacement Stems?

I recently saw a few pipes at an antique store with bent stems and really liked them. Upon closer examination I realized the stems had been chewed through. The pipes would other wise be totally functional if I could replace the stem. Anyone care to clue me in to where I can find replacement...

Notes About Ybor City Cigar Shops & History

Last Friday, on the way to visit Thompson's Cigars, in Tampa, Florida I noticed a building with a large sign reading Cuesta Rey Cigars right off I-4 in Tampa. I reckoned this to be roughly in the Ybor City area. I had not been to Ybor City since 1981 or 1982. When I was last in the...

Quick Report On My Visit To Thompson's Retail Store

No problem. Thanks for the advice. I am going to come back with some comments and observations about my trip to Ybor City a little bit later today.

Quick Report On My Visit To Thompson's Retail Store

I just wanted to drop a quick report on my visit to Thompson's Retail store in Tampa, Florida. I was in Central Florida for the Lakeland Rifle & Pistol Club show last weekend. I decided to stop in at Thompson's in the morning before the Friday show set up. The directions on their website are...

    Jack Daniels has been "tweaking"

Thats sad reading. I like Jack Daniels. The brand represents many good memories to me. Still, with companies like Jack Daniels acting like this there is no wonder the multitude of small batch upstarts are making inroads into what was the big guys exclusive market. It is Jack Daniels market to...

    Flor De Cana Rum

I was given some Flor de Cana rum about 15 years ago and was surprised how nice it was. I grew up around Bacardi. I really think Bacardi has done much to improve the quality of their product in the last 20 years. It now stands up on its own just fine without having to be mixed with other...
