The great Fyodor blind taste test!

Cigar no.3 O.k. I'm not sure if Moki is trying to kill me or what but this cigar just isn't right. To be honest I only smoked about one inch but I can't go on. This cigar is harsh, bitter and has a rough bite to it. It has hints of dirt and a little cedar(seriously). It tunnels something...

The great Fyodor blind taste test!

Well I'm a bit surprised to say the least. The funny thing is I've smoked several Cabaiguan's and liked them very much, thought they were a little Cuban-esque. I didn't realise they were that Cuban-esque though! I guess knowing before hand what the cigar was kept me from seeing just how...

The great Fyodor blind taste test!

Cigar no. 2 I wish I wouldn't have acted so sure of my guess on cigar no.1 because it totally discredits my opinions on this one. But this time I am entirely sure. Pre-light smell, taste and both after it's lit remind me of only one thing. Cuba. This has the same typical Cuban flavor most...

The great Fyodor blind taste test!

Funny what they say about the price of something changing your views on the taste. I'm still smoking the cigar and now that you mention it, it's not all that bad.

The great Fyodor blind taste test!

As far as the size and color, I don't know. Moki said I wasn't aloud to pay attention to that. Prelight aroma was pretty weak, the bag it came in smelled a little nicaraguan but not the cigar?

The great Fyodor blind taste test!

Cigar no. 1 O.K. this one is very easy. This is a mild cigar, Most likely Dominican, possibly Honduran. A lot of straight boring tobacco taste, a bit of a mineral taste with a tiny bit of wood and hay-like flavors. A medium finish. a very unassuming and simple cigar. My local shop has...

    Fact, Folklore, and Fantasy

I think that small cigars may be rolled by beginners but it is easier to roll and therefore shouldn't necessarily be low quality. And the bigger ones and figurados are harder to roll so even if the roller is good it's still challenging and could be of low quality. And for the comment about...

The great Fyodor blind taste test contest!

Actually I think there is a huge advantage in having a high number. :whistling: As far as the consolation prize, smoking ten free cigars from Moki's stash is all the consolation I need. Thanks for the sentiment though. -mark

The great Fyodor blind taste test!

I received my package from Moki today. Everything looks to be in order. I would like to thank Moki once again for his generosity and I am truly honored to be the guinea pig in this experiment. If there are no objections I will smoke the first one tomorrow after work, as long as I'm not held...

    Trader Joe's Scotches - Macallan, Glenlivet...etc

Wow, you cant buy hard liquor in DC at supermarkets? Here in Chicago you can get it almost anywhere, 7-11, every type of grocery store. Hell at my local Jewel they sell $150 Cognac.

    Montecristo #2

They will definitely be better with age. Any Cuban needs to be at least one year old to even consider smoking, and these would do best with about three years or more. At least that's my opinion, your's or other's tastes may vary. -mark

So when is a cigar really dead?

I've had some cigars go completely dry on me, as in not humidified for months and then slowly bring them back to proper moisture level. They never tasted right again. Obviously these weren't too good to begin with or I wouldn't have treated them so badly in the first place. So I'm gonna say...

The great Fyodor blind taste test!

Just for the record that disagreement between Moki and I was a bit old and I would probably say some different things on the subject today. But I more or less agree with my basic points and I'm up to the test. I haven't read any of the other posts on the other sites and I don't think I'll...

    Random musings

Sounds Like a lot of fun to me and thank you very much for offering. It would be easier if they were all puros but I'm more than willing to sample any cigars you would like me too and give you my impressions. I still think I can tell a Cuban from a NonCuban, the Dominican Vs. say Hoduran may...

    Very tight draw ISOMS

Interesting that you mention they are 6-8 years old, 2000's are known for construction problems. I have heard that the Quality control has improved since 06 and my experience seems to confirm that. However I smoked a semi-plugged montecristo no. 4 from 06 just today. try a cigar poker. -mark

    recent pepin purchases

I recently ordered the Pepin Lancero sampler and it should be here tomorrow. Anyone try the El Centurion Lancero yet? I'm looking forward to trying the El Centurion in this size. I still haven't got around to trying the 601 but it will definitely be my next purchase at my local shop. -mark

    padron 1926 no. 6

That's surprising, almost everyone seems to like those. A loose draw can definitely ruin a cigar though. It's not the norm for these however. Did you smoke the Maduro or the natural. My preference is for the maduro and I'm not usually a big maduro smoker. Definitely give it another try. -mark

Have a question about shipping methods

I feel sorta the way you do about not getting the box and bands spoiling the fun a little. I usually pay a little bit more to get them with the original box and to have guaranteed delivery. If you are sure about your source and have some experience with Habanos and could easily spot a fake I...
