Couple random questions on Boveda and cheap hygrometers

Oh, I love me some beads. About 2 lbs in my wineador, stable as a rock. I’m just looking for a short-term solution for parking new purchases. I actually just ordered a 7L Sistema Tupperware, I think that’s the ticket. Is Heartfelt still in the biz? Not taking orders last I looked.

    Recommend Some Fancy "Vacation" Cigars

Yep. It’s polarizing! 😂 I’ll post some more mainstream suggestions I’m sure. His question just brought this to mind.

    Today's Smoke 2025

Second cigar of the season. I’m going with some of my milder sticks until I get my smoking legs under me again. In the gazebo having nice Beefeater martini with it. Nice close to an excellent weekend!

Couple random questions on Boveda and cheap hygrometers

@rbbrock That’s exactly what I was thinking. Opened, straight into the tupper with the hygros. It’s a temporary thing.

    Recommend Some Fancy "Vacation" Cigars

If you're a bit of a history and travel geek, like me, you might enjoy this history of Schlenkerla. https://www.hopculture.com/history-of-schlenkerla/

Couple random questions on Boveda and cheap hygrometers

Thank you Mr. Behcet. It wasn't an "issue" to "combat". I was just wondering if anyone else felt brand-new, just opened Bovedas were a bit high or not. Once they go into a humi they won't be high for long. I was just curious, because 2-3 hygros seemed to agree. No problem! I love Bovedas. And...

    Recommend Some Fancy "Vacation" Cigars

Yes, you can! 😅 Some steak chefs swear by them! The Flying Pig is a 60 ring. I've had a couple, but I settled on the Fat Molly for me, a 56 ring is plenty for a leisurely and cool smoke. And the Islay malt or Schlenkerla was a genius pairing suggestion by @LarryH ! If you've never tried...

Couple random questions on Boveda and cheap hygrometers

[this section deleted, it was a stupid idea] Was asking about hygros for small tupperdores, but I'm just going to do a coolidor again and use a decent hygro in it. Second question, do Boveda packs tend to read just a bit high when brand new? I mean just opened the shipping bag and plop them in...

    Recommend Some Fancy "Vacation" Cigars

Good point, @MX ! I'm new here, though, and was a bit hesitant to suggest this until I get a better feel for the place. Was reading another thread here on the KFC and @LarryH wondered how it would play with an Islay malt or a smoked beer like Schlenkerla. I think that would be fantastic! Gonna...

    Recommend Some Fancy "Vacation" Cigars

Hmmm. I hesitated to even suggest this for two reasons. First, it does not fit your definition of "Fancy". It's not an Opus X or Liga Privada class cigar. Second, it's pretty polarizing. One guy on Cigarpass thinks it's OK, another reviewer thinks it's a dog rocket. But when I think "Vacation" I...

Ok, We can shut this down now. @CBoukal wins the thread, IMO. That's comedy gold, right there. 😅

Question on storing cigars in cooler temperatures

@Johnny B I hear you! But this whole dry box thing is new to me. I'm going to go with the Boveda 62s suggested in the long dry box thread for a while, but I could see going to Boveda 58 at some point. I need to experiment, and the advice given in that thread seems like a good place to start...

    Today's Smoke 2025

First cigar of 2025 for me! Weather is perfect for a smoke in the gazebo. This is an unknown cigar a shooting buddy gave me. It’s made by one of those rollers who shows up for weddings and other parties as entertainment. Given to me no idea on the details, but nice little, medium-bodied smoke to...

Question on storing cigars in cooler temperatures

I sure learned a lot in this thread. After calibrating the hygrometers and rotating cigars, the basement wineador has settled down at 69%RH @61F, which is fine for my aging storage. It’s been amazingly stable over the years. The intermediate humidor in the living room now has stabilized after...

Guide: How to salt test / calibrate your hygrometer

Many thanks to @BlindedByScience for the Mason jar idea. And many thanks to @personal User for the information that a unit calibrated at one RH may be off at another RH, they may not be linear. I happen to be borderline OCD (well SWMBO argues with 'borderline' qualifier), and worrying about the...

HC Series cigars - I like ‘em

Yes, I've been reading your review of them. I will definitely give them a try, they are creating a lot of buzz. Interesting you think it may be the Drew Estate factory. They do put out very good stogies, would not surprise me if you're right.

    What's Your Latest Purchase 2025

New small humidor for dry boxing. Probably does not need two Boveda packs, but since this humidor will be opened frequently, I figured doubling up on the Boveda packs would help keep it stable.

HC Series cigars - I like ‘em

Oh, boy! Those are certainly in the right price-point. And I’ve never been disappointed in any Olivia. And the Toasty Jones has gotten a lot of attention. Maybe next time, I’ll expand my horizons a bit and try something else. I’m very much a creature of habit, and I’ve just been reloading the...
