Try to get Fuji DVD-R. Comes in a blue box. You can get them at Best Buy. I'd link which one I'm talking about except their website is down. If you go to the store, look for the ones made in Japan. Those use a better type of ink than those made in China or Taiwan.

Also, use Nero CD Speed -> Disk Quality test to determine just how good your burn was. It will also tell you the kind of dye that is used on your media.

Try a slower burn. As for media, -R seems the best way to go, IMO.

Lampe Berger work great. Although for a large room or house, it'll take at least an hour to filter through most of the air. I've smoked in the house a number of times. The lamp + Oust spray + a small prayer usually leaves the house smoke-free*. *by definition, if the better half can't smell it...
