    High End Pipes

"A Dr. Grabow can smoke as well as a Dunhill. " True. and a cob can smoke better than a grabow therfore a cob can smoke better than a Dunhill. even if a $5 cob didn't smoke as well as a $250 Dunhill, there is no way it smokes 50 times better as the price would want you to believe.

    Chewing tobacco

i wouldn't call chewing tobacco "crap". some people enjoy this form of tobacco. advise your dentist that you chew, so he/she is aware and will examine you accordingly. as for horror stories, i have none. but: i had an uncle who chewed Mail Pouch, daily, he lived to be 89. and my grandfather...

Humidor's temp is usually in the low-mid 70's -- that OK?

i wouldn't worry about it. for the past seven years, i've lived in the desert, my house stays at about 79 May-Oct, and my cigars have been fine. do you think every cigar is rolled and shipped in a "perfect" environment that is 70/70?

A review on an old favorite

when i'm not smoking straight burley, i'm smoking orlik golden sliced. my review: like the tin says, this is full body VA tobaccos with a touch of burley. the cut from the tin is a traditional navy cut flake, you can either roll/fold or rub it out. from my experience, you get more flavor...

    Method for tasting a cigar?

to enjoy a cigar you don't need to get caught up in comparing a cigar's taste to those of food, such as coffee, chocolate, almonds, etc. like doc said, most experienced smokers taste "tobacco" and it's better to use terms like sweet, bitter, smooth, full-bodied to describe the tobacco.

    Need some advice

stick with your plan and buy those cobs as your first pipes, they will smoke better than a cheap briar and if you taint your pipe with a tobacco you don't like you aren't out much coin if you want to toss it. cobs also dry out faster than a briar so you can rotate them faster. they are also...

    Coolidor humidity running low

your thinking is correct. the credo you made will act as a catalyst, the beads will control. when you hit the desired RH, pull the catalyst. when you drop a few RH%, add the catalyst back.

    The Holly Grail

it's up to you to find the holy grail based on YOUR tastes, not mine. i like burley, you may not, so it's really up to you to find the type of tobacco you like, then try different blends in that category.

How do you prepare flake/cake tobacco?

leave it in flake form until you are ready to smoke. you can GENTLY rub them out or just fold, which is my preference, since you will get a more flavor by not rubbing out.
