This goes for any kind of solid grained wood. Also when building a humidor with dry wood then introducing high humidity. In the case of Spanish Cedar a weight might reduce the chance but most likely won't eliminate the problem. Wood expansion and contraction can bend wood or even break joints...
We pulled out an old Kraco am fm 8 track/CB from the dash of a 1972 Blazer today. It was held in place with this old cigar box lid. It was suggested they were La Aroma cigars. This has to be at least 30 years old. The stuff I've come across to hold a radio in over the years is quite comical.
At this point I might suggest we table this discussion until DC is confirmed. I believe Sam will do his best to get his end done. We are not henchmen here, just concerned members of the quality forum we enjoy here. Sam, I look forward to your effort to resolve this asap.
I have no say in any of this but I do feel Sam is a valued member here. Just unfortunate it came to this. Communication is very important to a successful PIF or a PASS. Hopefully this too will pass.
For those of you planning on building your own humidor let this be a lesson.
When building a humidor, one of the most important things to consider is wood movement. Wood is a powerful thing. If you don't allow for movement or you try to frame a top made from solid wood, you may encounter a...
From Box # 670 out of 1000. I've saved this box for only special occasions so I had high hopes. Fortunately I was not let down. Measuring 40 x 6.75, the wrapper was a beautiful golden color with an almost perfectly smooth tobacco. The cigar was consistently firm and the double cap was done to...
I just see this as unfortunate. He seemed to be a well liked member of the community. I don't understand why would he get involved if he is not responsible enough to follow through. The outcome in a situation like this will never be positive. As far as I'm concerned, I'm just a member here, I...
Sam, you must have some pretty good friends here. I have never been in a PIF or a Pass but I know if this had been me, I would have been devoured by the FOG's and shit on the lawn. IMHO fix this as fast as you can. These are good people here and shouldn't have had to take such measures.
I have 3 I built myself but I had this one from waaay back. I use it for ageing. You know the old saying "Shoe maker shoes always have holes" Besides, it would be a shame to have an empty humidor around. :D
Once I'm caught up on orders, I have some special wood I've been saving. I'm going to...
More importantly, jail will probably save someone else's life. She's an absolute stupid ass. Here people like us are fighting to survive, she's got it made and out endangering people like us. She thought she could act her way out of this one. HAH, the judge gave her some time to rehearse her...
I have the 4Th one and while it does hold humidity very well, it's a PITA to get cigars from the bottom. If you need the capacity though and you want to do some ageing, it will work nicely for you. They also sell belms of the same one for a little less sometimes.
