Check smallbatch.com, they usually have samplers so that you can try the different lines. The Maestro del Tiempos would definitely be a solid start, as well as Flor del Valle. Neither are on the $$$$ side of the Warped catalog, so less risk if you don't like them.
I don't keep a lot of Fuentes or Padrons onhand, but when it comes to premium priced non-Cubans I do keep a lot of Illusiones and La Palina Goldies around. Dion won me over with his $$$$ Haut 10's, they just hit the spot when I want something special that's just a little different. I have a box...
I love the flavor of the Warped Lirio Rojos, but they also happen to have the most consistently stellar construction of pretty much anything in my rotation.
This is a nice place. Many of you merely adopted flame wars, I was born in them, molded by them, I didn't see kindness on cigar boards until I was already a man, and by then it was nothing to me but blinding.
Finally saw a price that didn't make me go "WHAT THE F ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? ARE YOU SERIOUS?", so I pulled the trigger on a box of RyJ Petite Royales. Will report back when they arrive....
When I want a little more of a kick I generally either go with a Roma Craft Neanderthal or a Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970. Neither are killers, but definitely fuller bodied and the potential of a buzz.
Honestly smoke the hell out of them, really impressed. I think I've had one only one with a draw issue worth mentioning. Best luck has been robustos, Siglo Vl's, PSE2's, and lanceros so far. The last Siglo VI batch I got looks spectacular.
Yeah it takes a couple of of those racks that will hold them in their sides, and some rotation of the slabs a few different times. Probably added about an hour to my cook overall packing it full. The only collateral damage was the ends of 2 longer slabs getting crunchy up against the sides of...
12 slabs of babybacks on the regular sized Weber Bullet today...been using one for 15 years through many competitions and I think I hit my personal capacity limit. They all came out great, pic of a clean bite below..."falling off the bone" is KC BBQ failure, it's a narrow window to get the clean...
Got a box of 10 Lusi's from April '16. The cost of a regular box puts it in a range where I'm going to get other stuff I like more, but when these pop up it's a perfect solution. I don't burn through DC's like I do Churchills.
