I have the polar opposite experience, when I fire up a 2000 these days it always seems to be even better than I remember.
To answer the OP, Ashton VSG used to be a favourite but the last few I've tried have been underwhelming.
Two that spring to mind for me are the Pitbull and La Ley, both by Nicarao Cigars. Blends of Nicaraguan/Cuban and Nicaraguan/Honduran/Cuban tobacco respectively, so not too easily available in the United States, unfortunately.
