Wilkey, perhaps a link to your discussion with Greg would be helpful. I read it and enjoyed the discussion. Unfortunately I don't have a link available.
This is a intriguing question and one that has been debated often. There are too many variables at play to have a hard and fast rule. It seems to be the choice of many to find a brand that you like and put a couple boxes away. Try one every 6 months until they achieve the flavor you like. I have...
I purchased one of these, http://www.smokershaven.com/index.asp?Page...mp;Category=673. It's a good size pipe, well made out of turkish meerschaum. They aren't signed so the price is less.
All good choices, if you want to try a sampler use this link http://www.pipesandcigars.com/ruouhobl.html. It's the same as the first one Psyktek gave but takes to directly to Russ's blends. If you go to the bottom of the list there a sampler offer. Read the offerings and pick 6 to try. I have...
If you find you're getting wet dottle in the heel of your pipe try drying the tobacco a bit before smoking. Just spread out a bowl full on a piece of paper and let it air dry a hour or two.
Disclaimer: This method will not work with tobacco cased with
PG, that is most aromatics.
Smoking...
Would anyone be interested to send me a sampler of their favourites? I'll trade cigars or send cash, just let me know.
Thanks.
Jim

Mac Baren Vintage Syrian. If you missed it this time better keep a eye out for it, when the next shipment hits the stores it will fly out again.
From the lable:
HH vintage syrian. a little under half the volume is a smooth and yet powerful Latakia from Syria. Also contains Turkish...
My take on this is my taste buds must not be developed enough to distinguish the difference. I mean it's got to be me, everyone else seems to just go gaga over the 3-6 year old pipe tobacco.
In blends that are mostly Va. tobaccos I can taste a difference, just in that they don't bite me as...
Nice pipes ! Maybe one of these days I'll have enought coin for a Talbert.
Funny, I'll give $300-$400 for a box of cigars but think that's too much for a pipe.
Sounds like you have a great wife also. Not many like the aroma's of pipe smoking much less buy pipes for presents. She got any sisters? :whistling:

Well it was going to be later in the week :p I opened one of the tins last night and sliced 3 wafers of one of the cakes. Left out to dry over night on a piece of paper, they crumbled up nicely today. A nice smooth smoke with over tones of the perique popping up now and then. I'm going to...
Got mine yesterday, 21 different tobaccos. Mostly Iwan Ries brand and mostly aromatic. I'll give tham a try and the ones I don't try I have a retired co-worker that smokes Capt Black, maybe he'll enjoy the rest. Still a great deal for free tobacco.
Word of warning to the new guys, some of the...
I need to update this thread as I now have 7 Don Carlos. Guess you can figure out what my fav is now.
The member that was posting about cheap pipes try this link Frenchys. Great guy to deal with and his estate pipes come ready to smoke. I'v bought several from him with no complaints.
