antaean
marevas...are hand rolled
petit coronas...are machine made
now for the confusing part...some marevas are called a petit corona this is there "vitola de salida" or name on the box(bolivar petit coronas upmann petit coronas etc) ...they can also be called short hoyo corona or...

like yourself...i prefer 42 ring(or so)smokes.
all siglo VI made are "sick" right now...exception might be ones made in 2006 or maybe even since march or april '06.
there are no aged VI's...in a few years(when there are)you will get some better opinions i am sure.
the few i tried in...
have had a few 5packs of marevas...various singles of the others...marevas are the best they have to offer...dont start to shine for 3 or 4 years.
derrek :)
5 packs are what i buy when i have spent an hour or two in an lcdh and cant find any boxes i want to get.
mostly i get the 5's of monty #4's...for a few reasons (1)i smoke marevas most of the time (2)they are available at EVERY lcdh (3)a nice round 20$ per 5pack makes the math easy.etc. etc...
have a box of sanchos...ene'01...that i have had 4 from...with apologies to coventrycat i feel these are mucho young.
would recommend that if they arent 5 years old then pass.
derrek :)
interesting the way the question is worded...
it seems with time/experience you are able to find(on the internet)some very old smokes and i do purchase on the internet from time to time...not very often and usually not unless 10+ years old.
like matt r i prefer to find older cigars in cuba and...
i dont think there were any from '01...all i have seen were '02...i may be wrong and yes i know they have an "edicion limitada 2001"band.
have had 2 in the last 3 months...still very out of balance(mucho strong and not as flavourful as they will be)and it may be 10 years before they do mature...

i posted this elsewhere a few years ago...it is basically a cut and paste with a few revisions...enjoy your trip

zeebra is correct...you are allowed 750$canadian duty free for being out of the country for a week...but this includes all of your purchases(souvenirs art towels cigars etc.).
what i do is claim as duty free my 4 most expensive boxes(i go with the wife)and pay duty on the rest...custom rolls...
"it is EITHER
(A) 50 BOXED with receipt (1 box of 50, or 2 box x 25) , OR,
(B) 23 Loose cigars per person"
sunward...i believe that this is incorrect...the 3 times i have returned from cuba since the rule of 23 was dreamed up(by cuban customs)...i have always returned with more than 50...

about 2 years ago i puffed through a '98 box of Charlottes...very strong and very partagas...smoke them slow as they heat up fast and dont recover(if you do overheat them)so please dont think of these as a "quicky"smoke.enjoyed them very much...an equally enjoyable alternative would be bolivar...

on which other bb was this thread started???i would very much like to read the original thread.
same discussion is going on at vcc...i went and checked(in my easiest to get to coolers only)...6 boxes from '98 all have italy on them...one box from '01 has germany...i have no doubt...

That cigar was never in cello and if you find a recent vintage Habanos in cello, it's a fake.

ginseng
this statement is incorrect...some of the recent "machine made" habanos still come in cello...i am sure you know this but there is a possibility of confusing newer habanos...
lucasbuck
this is an interesting statement...around 6 months(or so)after the release of the sigloVI(around christmas '03)everybody was b!tching about how bland and tasteless they were and what a dud this new release was.so i assumed every sigVI made was sick and just put my box away...
i believe i have read everything he has written(up to "war of the flowers").
one of the authors i look for every time i am in a bookstore.
my alltime favorite is still "tailchasers song".
"otherland" i read one year apart as they were published...!!what a great read!!

first a disclaimer:i have not smoked enough churchills to pass any sort of judgement on any of them.
i believe cigars (some anyways) get stronger as they age...if you want to try a really strong churchill it will probably have to be 6 or 7 or 8 years old.try a reasonably aged partagas...
