I don't know about the source but the info is correct.
But mobiles have been in use in Cuba for a long time. Good coverage in the resorts -all the tour reps have had mobiles for years- and CUBACELL, one of the big providers in Havana has offices everywhere. The past few years you see all the...
Unfortunately, Jack's picture really is worth a thousand words.
I was there.
They really were cutting Edmundos.
I have another (better) picture showing a guy with a giant pile of chopped-off pieces of Edmundos. (destined for Jose L. Piedras???)
Heartbreaking. :(

James Suckling is from the U.S. of A.
He went to school in Madison -which should tell you a lot right there!
Commander Bob
Who bought his Cheesehead in Madison.
It's curious to me that so many Cuban cigar people light their cigars that way too -hold up a lighter, puff furiously until a giant bonfire appears at the end of the cigar, then blow out the fire and puff contentedly. Maybe Suckling picked up HIS technique from them.
Also interesting has been...
What aspect, specifically?
I was amazed at how the finalists in the cigar somelier contest lit cigars and after some discussion, I'm now lighting my smokes BEFORE I clip them.
Despite my idea that a guy who dresses as inappropriately as Mr. Suckling did for the Distributor Night Gala is less...
It's called a TROLL.
And it seems to have had the desired effect - a bunch of non-conclusive opinions and some snarky remarks by some members directed at others.
I'm sure that the OP is happy.
Commander Bob
Seeing no good reasons to give up Cuban cigars. :D
I was luckier.
They let me run back into the airport and check my cigars at the "Lost and Found" so I could pick them up on my way home.
They had no doubt about "NO Cuban cigars"; personal use or not.
Commander Bob
So that made it once caught out of about 150 trips -not a bad record.
Half of the folks at my table at the Final Night Gala were from Texas.
Without "permission".
I had to wait in line at the cigar store because a bunch of folks from the USA were buying up the store.

The nice thing about Aljibe is that despite the fact that it has been in ALL the guidebooks for years, everybody who knows cigars goes there to hang out, hoards of tourists pack the place every day and the staff can be a bit gruff if someone they know comes in when the tables are full... the...
In my box they are (left to right):
Cuaba Generosos
San Cristobal de La Habana Mercaderes
Trinidad Robusto Extra
H. Upmann Magnum 50
Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial
Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill
Partagas Serie P No.2
Montecristo Petit Edmundo
Cohiba Siglo VI
Cohiba Genios Maduro 5
I'm...
Where I live, you can't buy a box of cigars for $250.
But I think I know what you are getting at.
Cuaba Exclusivos, for example sell for $242.00 CUC but my credit card gets charged in USD -about $269 or just over 11% more.
If the CUC/USD exchange goes to 19% those Cuabas will cost...
Why just the factories?
FWIW, all the "new" and fresh stock was smoking very well during the week of the Festival. The only tough smoke I had was a Sancho Sanchos from the too cold and too wet humidor at the Hotel Nacional.
Some custom Corona Gordas I asked to be rolled for me during the week...
I'm sorry that you mis-interpreted my statement.
If you believe that I'm being dismissive, you are taking yourself and your "work" waaay too seriously. The alternative to this kind of anecdotal information is to simply buy Habanos from Habanos and not worry about the inserts.
It's a hobby for...
All very interesting and a lot of fun, especially if one or more of the samples was actually from some fake Habanos.
I must (I must, I must) comment however that I happen to have kept virtually every insert from every box I've bought in Cuba over the past dozen years and there is MUCH variation...
It's all a matter of taste.
If you don't like Cuban cigars, you should smoke something else.
Searching for people to agree with your taste is a good idea ; you can then have a bunch of like-tasters to share views with.
Smoke all the non-Cubans you like and leave the Island smokes to those of us...
"relatively touristy"??
Have you visited any factories lately?
The only factory left that allows "tourist" tours is Partagas and they don't let you see anything but the galeria.
Please let me know which factories you consider to be "non-touristy" and I'll see if I know anything about their...
I'm curious to know where your "personally credible" people got their first hand information. Are they blind? (No offense intended).
I visited a tobacco plantation last week and saw the amazing, labour-intensive operations undertaken to provide leaf of different characteristics to the...
Great Smoke!
I know where there is a big stock of boxes from December 2000 and I've been slowly depleting the stack, every trip to Varadero. :)
Never had a bad one. It's one of those vitolas that was supposed to be "discontinued" so it's good to know that there are some 2006 versions around...
Yo! Derrek!
Too short indeed. We'll have to try to get closer resorts next time. I enjoyed our conversation in "The VIP Room".
Hope you ended up with a decent haul of Tasty Island Treats
