I've had a couple of tastes and it's a very nice $50ish bottle of whiskey. It is a bit less intense than bourbon and even American rye whiskeys (such as Templetons or Whistlepig), but it is a very nicely balanced, routine kind of drinking whisky. I did taste the vanilla notes (pretty subtle)...
Not sure what to make of this whiskey (going to open it soon), but for $50 retail how bad could it be? The son and I were just taking about how Canadian whiskeys were stepping up their game - hopefully this is an amazing example of that! We shall see!!!
I think I lucked out - retail at a local grocery store of all places…. 🥰
UPDATED: At the urging of my son, I've cracked this bottle to sample the contents and all I can say is "where have you been all of my life!!!" Amazing nose (likely sounds crazy, but I could definitely smell traces of the...
I hate gougers with a passion!!! I'd never pay over retail for Blanton's. And I really only buy it to give as gifts for friends - I like a lot of other whiskey's over Blanton's. Just gave a bottle of Blanton's to my son-in-law for his birthday.
Oh yeah! Rare Breed! ♥️ I am especially fond of the Rare Breed Rye.
But I could not agree more on the best Old Fashioned being made with Rare Breed. Was very blessed when visiting the Wild Turkey distillery that they had a few bottles of the Master's Keep Unforgotten for sale in their...
That's a great point. And I'm also really liking Benchmark (made by BT) better than Blanton's. I can buy the most expensive versions (small batch, single barrel, full proof, etc) for $20-25 and all are very worth the $$$
I actually get more of a Angel's Envy mixed with a wee bit of Templeton's Rye (just a smidge), Woodford's Reserve, and Rabbit Hole finish. It does taste complex, but not ostentatious. That's just me though. 😁
But I completely agree - for the price it's not worth the effort. In the...
Love Bruichladdich! Just finished my bottle of Black Art recently. Enjoyed the last of it with my son - who agrees it's one of the best whiskey's he'd had. Unfortunately - the price just keeps climbing...
Love the Classic Laddie and Port Charlotte (even though I'm not a huge fan of peated...
Our local grocery store has had a regular stock of Buffalo Trace, though it's stored in the backroom. I love to make Copperheads with it (2 oz. BT, 1/2 oz. of Amontillado Sherry, 1/2 oz. of Drambuie and a couple of shakes of orange bitters). I've tried a lot of other bourbons in the...
The newer version of Rendezvous is definitely good, but I still think the OR was the best. I finished my first bottle in record time - and surprisingly managed to find another bottle recently that must have been lost in the back room of the liquor store - priced at original pricing! Funny that...
It seems there is a bit more availability of late. I was at Binny's this past week and they had a good amount of BT Kosher Rye on the shelf. That was generally held in the back room, but now they're putting it on the shelf. And they seem to be receiving regular shipments that are making it...
I swear they come to the window and pose. The wife came back all excited yesterday telling me to grab my camera because the hummingbirds were in front of our picture window posing again! 🤣
...funny you say that!!! I'm trying to work on the artistic part of photography, and took a class in the spring on the History of Photography where I was introduced to Saul Leiter (he was untrained and yet really changed the world of photography in the 50's and 60's). That was exactly what I...
This is the ONLY copperhead I like. Much less scary, but nearly as deadly! :)
2 ozs. of a GOOD bourbon (not the cheap stuff - flavor matters!)
1/2 oz Drambuie
1/2 oz. Amontillado Sherry
3-4 good shakes of Orange Bitters
