Hey there. I'm going to be selling off a whole bunch (at least 50) estate pipes starting later this week. The plan is to do an odd reverse auction type of deal, where I'll start everything off at $30 per pipe including US shipping with a discount for multiple pipe purchases, and then reduce the...
There are some great suggestions in this thread.
In that price range, I'd probably go for a Castello Sea Rock estate. Should run right around $100 or so, depending on size and shape.
In general, I like to buy estate pipes. I don't like breaking in new pipes, and I like the savings.
There...
They seem to do the giveaway in waves. People will sign up, no one will get anything, and then bam, everyone who submitted gets something. So you might wait a few weeks, or a few months.
I like P-lip on system, and fishtails on everything else.
I have had roof of mouth bite, when smoking a P-lip straight pipe, but it's rare.
I agree with earlier posters, if you want to experiment, buy a system with P-lip and if you don't like it it's easy enough to buy a fishtail stem for it.
Bob's Chocolate Flake is from Gawith & Hoggarth and you probably won't find it at a local brick & mortar.
Lots of places sell it online. Two that immediately come to mind are 4noggins and mars cigars & pipes

Just a quick aside. Christmas Cheer is a straight VA. A lot of times people go looking for a Christmas blend and think that they are all aromatics to be smoked around the house while people drink egg nog and that sort of thing. Christmas Cheer is Excellent Tobacco but the room note, while not...
Hi. I'm a member of the Seattle Pipe Club and have been organizing
folks and legislators to amend the Washington State law that was passed last
session as Senate bill 5340. This law makes it illegal for anyone in the state
(even an adult) to receive pipe tobacco by mail, because it makes the...
That sounds really really weird. The samples I got clearly came from Altadis, I believe an address in North Carolina, and the tobacco was clearly marked as being pipe tobacco (and the blends were listed on Tobacco Reviews).
I like Anni Kake but find it a bit too sweet for regular consumption. 2015 is more my speed... but I'm very glad you found something you like!
(I have a 3 year old daughter too. Small world.)
LOL, no worries. I like a clean pipe, and nothing gets me more frustrated than buying a pipe that's supposedly clean and having it arrived needing a dozen pipe cleaners and alcohol to get into a smokable state...
In any case, I digress. A pipe that's been smoked a good amount, even if it is...
I strongly suggest buying wide mouth jars.
The half pint wide mouth Kerr jars fit 4 oz of flake or 100 g of ribbon cut easily.
The smaller jelly jars (also wide mouth) will fit 2 oz of flake easily (I've gotten 75 g in there with some styles of flakes) or 50 g of ribbon cut.
If you want to go...
I recommend applying Paragon or Halcyon by hand.

An alternative if you don't want to mail order is Renaissance Wax which I've seen at local woodworking supply shops.
Yet another alternative (not kidding) is simple regular Turtle Wax.
A couple of things... first, the previous poster says he's breaking in six new briars... well, they aren't new, unless he's been going hog wild LOL as they were probably estate pipes purchased from me. (See previous post of mine... I have a few left and will be adding more in a week or so)...
Two others that immediately come to mind are Hearth & Home Anniversary Kake (from pipesandcigars.com also at 4noggins.com) and Sam Gawith St. James Flake. Both are very well regarded VA/per.
Yeah, I typically warm my jars in the microwave just a bit before stuffing. I worry about stoving. I'd never put a jar in a boiling water bath...
My process...
1) Prepare tobacco -- get it out and be ready to measure. Weigh jar.
2) Microwave glass part of jar for 30-45 seconds depending on...
It may be that the top is loosely packed compared to the bottom.
It may also be that the tobacco is not properly dryed.
I don't like to microwave or toast my tobacco and I live in a marine climate. What I typically do is heat up a small bowl or dish in the toaster or microwave, not too hot...
