It is good to have more variety in this thread even if it ia genre outside my norm. Us old dogs get stuck sometimes.

That would save on charcoal. I use an electric fire starter and since this was going to take so much fuel I put 2 layers of briquets on the bottom and then the lump on top. Since it was going for almost an hour before the pan went it those bottom layers were ash especially after being blasted...

And you were worried about ash flying up and possibly getting on the meat using a leaf blower but not from putting the meat directly on the coals? How does that work?

I remember back when mine was new I could hit 800 but nothing close to 1100. I have a replacement bottom grate and a fuel basket but no metal rod. I'll have to look into that. Thanks.
