I've been smoking cigars now pretty religiously over the past year or so, trying out all different kinds. Loving the hobby (even if my checking account...aka wife disagrees:)
Anyway, after all this time, I still often get confused on the wrapper terms. Interestingly I've only found a few web sites that help clarify things but they often seem incomplete. I'd even be willing to purchase a book that helps explain things better if you have any recommendations.

Just to elaborate on some of my confusion... these sites help explain the wrapper in terms of color http://cigarfan.wordpress.com/2009/02/02/cigar-wrapper-colors/ as well as this wikipedia entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cigar#Wrappers yet there is obviously a lot more to a wrapper than just the color. What I would like to find is a comprehensive listing of not just the color, but a description of what to expect in taste/complexity when it comes to other labels.

For example I might hear "Connecticut shade," "Dark Sumatra," "Corojo(?)" or "Habano(?)" as examples in reference to a wrapper.I'd love to see a a fairly comprehensive list explaining how these different wrappers are supposed to taste (and look - color), what part of the plant the leaf they are from, the process (shade grown vs sun, fermented differently), etc.

Since I haven't seen too many sites that get into this I might start my own site helping to clarify things for others once I can gather enough information.

Thanks for any help in this research.

Hey I found this link. I don't know if that is what you are looking for, or if you are looking for even more in depth.

The 'reviews' forum should have all that info.

Feel free to compile it!

Please note, tastes vary.

Spicy to you may not be to me!
