Codger-in-training
A few weeks ago, a Steller's Jay started hanging around the deck, scoring raw peanuts that The Wife® puts out for the the neighborhood squirrel. We had friends over for dinner on Labor Day weekend and while we were sitting on the deck, Jay showed up for more eats. Within the span of a few minutes, we had Jay taking peanuts on-the-fly from our hands and from the top of my head. He even landed on a friend's foot.
Jay is now a daily visitor (at least) and is quite comfortable sitting on my hand long enough to cram several shelled peanuts into his gullet. Once he's full, he flies off to cache them, then he comes back for more. I sure hope he spends the winter with us.
