I have some ideas, but am also seeking any ideas/suggestions for flooring options to set a pool table on in a basement. I am finishing the basement so right now it is just a level slab so I think that leaves all options on the table. The rest of the basement will be carpeted but I want something stable under the table. I originally wanted to do hardwood but I'm hearing that might not good under the weight of a pool table.

if you really want hardwood, just go around the feet of the pool table and place the feet of the pooltable on a solid base like a granite tile (12"x12") adhered directly to the concrete slab.
i would recomend putting down a subfloor of some sort instead of directly onto the concrete (you will need a vapor barrier as well). the home centers now sell 24"x24" inter locking, floating, sub floor systems. they have a vapor barrier, honeycomb rubber adhereed to an engineered wood. i personally would call a contractor, offer him 40 bucks for an hour of advice.
