Argh! I'm frustrated!

When I was 18 I majored in drugs and quit college.
When I got around to college and grad school in my 40s I was working full time serving 8 churches as pastor, teaching and preaching every week, and going to school full time. I did a BA in History / Philosophy in 3 1/2 years and then a 90 hour M.Div. in 3 1/2 years both suma-cum-laude.
I look back on those years now in wonder... wonder that I was able to do it but also wonder at the joy I found in working REALLY HARD and doing well and doing good! Yes, there were times I had absolutely no idea how I would get all the 20 page papers done and prepare for finals, orals, etc. But I stayed busy, doing the next thing on the list, and then the next...
It's kind of like climbing a mountain. When you look up at the vastness of it, it is easy to become overwhelmed at the enormity of the task. But, if you keep your head down, focusing on the next step, and the next step... before you know it you look up one day and discover that you are at the summit!
I also look back and realise how precious those times were when I had no idea where the energy / words / time / courage would come from... and yet they came. As long as I was faithful to the challenge it worked.
I remind myself of that now with all the challenges I face every day... if I am faithful, doing my part as well as I can, it will work out.
You can do it too ... really!

Situations like this are the reason people like me have drinking problems.
