Bob's humidors are well made. His designs are well thought out. Are they the best available?
No. I would say they are on the "knee" of a price to performance ratio curve. That position is where I typically try to buy.
I.e., you've reached the point where the gains in the quality to cost ratio have become much more negligible.
He uses Banded and Veneered High Quality MDF which does not warp from the humidity.
He also use some solid hardwoods where necessary, and premium Hardware and cedar.
Craftsmanship is quite good. Upon inspection, it is evident that the final product is the result of many manufacturing steps.
You pay a little more than the imports, but I suspect that these will last longer.
Be advised that these are hand made, and that they are still subject to the occasional piece that may display something less than perfection.
That said, Bob is an honest perfectionist, and truthful when he guarantees his quality.
He is also very busy with turn arounds that can be longer than his initial estimate.
This is just a fact of business, working many contracts, manpower, etc.
This is still a luxury item.
As a famous Humidor craftsman said, anything beyond a cooler is a luxury.
