Not sure what "holiday season" they are referring to, but I'm guessing it'll be out sometime in 2007. :) Note the "marketing genius" theory debunking at the top of the second column, too.

Those are going to be great, thanks for the info! I just hope they don't play with our emotions and delay, delay, delay. They should just sub the box manufacturing contract to the cigar box clock guy and CC and aging, well how can you not know how long that will take? Box split? ???

Anyone find improvement after allowing the Churchills to sit for 5 - 6 months.
The first one I had was not that good, I have rested them for about 5 months
now, time to test another, or not?

I think that they are better now. I have smoked one a month since they were released. They are getting better.

I have smoke a few and have enjoyed every one of them! I shoulda kept the box I sold, but hey there will be others...... HAAaaaaa

I assume this is the January Ashton newsletter, the last one before the recent Christmas season, I believe it came around out Thanksgiving, said the ESG Robustos would be out in early '07.

So, unfortunately, it looks like they've delayed it and we won't be seeing these until Nov '07. I harass our Ashton rep the next time he comes in.

What do you guys mean by better? What kind of improvement is needed? I haven't had nor seen one, so I'm clueless as to what the problem might be. Are the tanic? Harsh? What are the notables in question?

Thanks

I'm not sure, I've always liked 'em. I think a combination of the high price, delayed release date, etc. led to expectations that couldn't be met. A few resulting "let down" reviews caused an online meme that these cigars are not good. I find that to be untrue, at least for me.

It's weird the way it works... the rapid exchange of information often leads to group-think regarding things such as this. On one particular forum, the meme was that "NC smokes taste metallic". Now I've never tasted metal in any smokes, but sure as shit, everyone on that forum stated that XXXXXX tasted "metallic".

Weird how that works.

I think that they are getting smoother, the strength and spicines are starting to mellow. Kind of like how an Opus ages in the beginning, but maybe a little less drastic. Although, I never found the fresh ESG to be unpleasant like I have found fresh Opus to be.

The only cigar that I have ever noticed a metallic taste was Astral Talanga Valley. I always thought it tasted metallic in the 1st inch or so. I have some but I don't smoke them anymore.

The Churchill has definitely improved. The first few I had were one dimensional, now there's some taste.

Not sure about the Robusto's though, I have 10 sleeping for about 6 weeks. If they are the same as the Churchill's,
in that they were released early, I will wait 4 more months.
