You all have to remember to put your address in your profile.......

Somebody might look to send a bomb or two.....

Don't clog up this thread with the usual BS...... "bomb me, bomb me"..... if you ask for it it probably won't happen.

It's like the lottery...... "hey, ya never know".....

Great advice. If someone with my luck can get bombed then it can happen to anyone. Been here less than a month when I got hit.

James

Sorry but I completely disagree about putting your address in your profile. There are way too many psychos on the internet. Hoping to get abomb is not a good reason to expose yourself to the wackos out there.

I agree, Harris... So can announcing that you're going to be at a herf at a given time and place...

There are times when I see someone who could use a "helping hand". It's much easier for me to look up their address in their profile, rather than asking them for it... I put my work address in my profile - others use a PO box - to "insulate" themselves. No matter what, it's a risk interacting on these boards - whether you post your information or not... Fortunately, I've not had a problem - YET...

Of course I do get crap from my kids about giving my info out on the Internet - something I've taught them not to do.... :whistling:

Is this where we post to expose ourselves to the wackos.

No, that is what the phone book and google is for. These are also the reasons why we have the 2nd ammendment. ;)

I was just attempting to welcome some newbies in the same generous fashion in which I was welcomed to this BB...

Hmmm Tommy...I can't seem to find an addy in your profile... :whistling:

Been there, done that..... there are enough BOTLs on this BB that have it.....

You can run but you can't hide... :)

It is a chance you have to take in life.

I may be a little more jaded than some of you because I have been on cigar sites since 1997. In that time I have seen people get into flame wars and then one person or the other takes it to a different level. I have seen people have their employers contacted, I have seen people call others wives. I have seen people threatened with legal action.

You know, Master has a real point, but I've decided that, on this board anyway, I'm trusting the FOGs (and others) to keep things straight. Wackos don't seem to last long around here, thank goodness.

I know a lot of people get freaked out when they see the old-timers crew coming down on someone, and it's natural to think, gee, can't we just cut the guy some slack, but I've learned that by NOT letting things slide, the board is a safer environment for discussion, for trading, and for meeting people.

I felt completely comfortable dropping my end of a trade into the mail first recently. I felt completely comfortable going to meet a guy for a smoke that I'd only talked to a few times. Why do I get to trust people like that? Cuz folks like Leebo, CC, NA, GG and others keep the creeps in their sights. It's kind of like the wild west, but with words. As long as you've got a few top-notch gun-slingers around to keep the streets safe, we're all better off for it.

I agree that some people get carried away into the problems and, go out of their way to cause trouble. Then, there people conduct themselves in a professional and tactful manner. I guess it depends on the individual. Me, i took my addy out, and like Tommy said... people know where i live, just ask another BOTL.

Harris - I don't disagree that there are loose cannons out there on the boards. Fortunately, they're few and far between.

To be honest, there is only so much you can do to protect your anonymity on these boards. With just little pieces of information anyone with the ability can locate you. For example - with the little bit I know about you, Harris, from what I read in these (and other threads and boards) within less than 1 minute I had your full name, your current and former addresses and phone numbers. The point is - if someone REALLY wants to find you, they will. We are, after all, in the "Information Revolution" period.

It's probably best not to interact with anyone on the boards if you wish to avoid being "stalked". Kevpriest is right - in the time I've been on these boards I've met some great, generous people. I really don't have a great fear of meeting weirdos (except maybe at the LOL Herf this coming weekend - MattR is supposed to be there - but that's a WHOLE 'nother story).

Fortunately for me, the ones that have been bad have been bad on the boards alone. Your efforts, Harris, to out the scumbags goes a long way in making these boards safe for everyone.

I would suggest to those that are leary of putting your home address in your profile, get a PO Box or use your work address. It certainly will cut down on the possibility of weirdos finding you. ;)

...agreed. Master, I completely hear what you are saying, but so far, the guys on this board have all been great folks, to a man. I suppose that if some wack job really wanted to hunt me down, all things considered between this board and the other PC boards I hang on, I'm not all that hard to run down.

There are things I do watch and concern myself with, but so far, the FOG's / BOTL's on this board aren't among them.

...did I say "hey there" to the new guys? Glad to have you around....

Regards - B.B.S.
