When it comes to Connecticut-wrapped cigars, opinions run deep and I’ve had my fair share of contenders. In this personal face off, I compared three well known names: the Zino Grandmaster, Oliva Connecticut Reserve, and the Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne. All three hold their own in terms of construction and performance solid burns, good draws, and consistent craftsmanship. But flavor is where the real distinction lies.

Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne

Let’s get this out of the way first. Yes, the Perdomo 10th is the #1 selling Connecticut cigar on the market. But for me? It ranks last. While it’s reliable and well-made, it just doesn’t deliver anything exciting on the palate. The flavor is straightforward some might say flat and lacks the complexity or nuance I look for. I understand its popularity among beginners, but experienced smokers may find it underwhelming. I only included it here because of its best-seller status—there are many other Connecticuts I’d choose before reaching for this one.

Oliva Connecticut Reserve

This one’s a personal favorite and a regular in my rotation. The Oliva Connecticut Reserve impresses with its balance, complexity, and smooth transitions. It’s creamy, yes, but there’s more going on beneath the surface hints of nuts, cedar, and light pepper that make it an engaging smoke from start to finish. This cigar proves you can have depth without overpowering strength, and it's a clear standout for those who want a Connecticut with character.

Zino Grandmaster

The Zino Grandmaster takes the top spot in this match for one simple reason: it elevates the experience. From the luxurious aroma of the smoke to the flawless draw and smooth, silky flavor, this cigar feels refined. It’s lighter than the Oliva, but not lacking it’s elegant. Subtle, yes, but it carries itself with a kind of quiet confidence that makes every puff feel intentional. It’s not just a smoke it’s a moment.

Final Thoughts

If you're new to cigars, the Perdomo 10th might serve as a safe, friendly introduction. But for seasoned smokers who crave either complexity (Oliva) or elegance (Zino), there are better Connecticut options out there. As always, taste is subjective but for my money, the Zino Grandmaster wins this battle.

Let me know your favorites did I miss one that deserves to be in the ring?

Two of these came in my latest sampler. I will be sure to pay extra attention to them now, thanks. Im going to give them all a rest in there new home for a week or two before I start pulling from them.
