I'm currently smoking a very bitter tasting padron 3000. It's the worst I've ever had. What might have happened? The most bitter part is right where I cut.
Could be one of two things. Not aged enough (not likely) or tar build up. Did you see a brown ooze at the head? Tastes awful. Cutting more off the head often helps. Funny thing is, I've never had a tar problem with a Padron.
I've had this happen on occasion and agree with Doc that it could be tar, I also agree that I've never had it happen with a Padron. Something else to think about is whether or not your hands were into anything bitter prior to firing it up. The taste could easily transfer from your finger tips to the cigar and lastly your lips.
I wouldn't say it was oozing however when I touched the cut where the bitter was most prevalent it left a dark stain on my finger.
Trying to think if I touched anything. And cant say that I did. Tasted other parts of the cigar and did not get the bitter taste. It was for sure coming from cut.
I'm not sure when it was rolled. I bought it at a local joint. I've bought from them before and not had a bad smoke.
