Human Terrain Team Leader​

The Human Terrain Team Leader will lead the Human Terrain System (HTS), which is a team that will collect and analyze data from the Brigade Combat Team (BCT) and Regional Combat Team (RCT) to obtain cultural and political awareness in order to sustain and foster stabilization. The HTS project is designed to improve the gathering, interpretation, understanding, operational application and sharing of local population knowledge at the BCT and RCT and Division levels. The Human Terrain Team Leader will be the BCT commander's principal hum terrain advisor, responsible for supervising the team's effort and helping integrate data into the staff decision process. The key attribute of the HTT team leader is the ability to successfully integrate the HTT into the process of the BCT in an effective and credible manner and become a trusted advisor to the BCT commander.
Qualifications

· Experience in the U.S. Military with experience as a principal Brigade staff officer.

· The ideal candidate would have achieved the rank of an O-5/6.

· Graduate of the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) or the service equivalent.

· Skilled in the English language including written and verbal skills to prepare and deliver clear, concise research studies, briefings, and oral presentations.

Human Terrain Analyst​

The Human Terrain Analyst will be a part of the Human Terrain System (HTS), which is a team that will collect and analyze data from the Brigade Combat Team (BCT) and Regional Combat Team (RCT) to obtain cultural and political awareness in order to sustain and foster stabilization. The HTS project is designed to improve the gathering, interpretation, understanding, operational application and sharing of local population knowledge at the BCT and RCT and Division levels. The Human Terrain Analyst will serve as the primary human terrain data researcher. He/She will participate in debriefings, and will interact with other target area organizations and agencies.

Qualifications:

· Experience in the U.S. military in the intelligence arena

· The ideal candidate would have achieved the rank of an E-6 to O-3/4 of any Occupational Specialty.

· Undergone training to be a debriefer.

Arabic Linguist / Cultural Advisor​

Pashto Linguist / Cultural Advisor​

The Linguist / Cultural Advisor is a member of the Human Terrain System (HTS) that will collect and analyze data from the Brigade Combat Team (BCT) to obtain cultural and political awareness in order to sustain and foster stabilization.. The Linguists / Cultural Advisor will provide local interpretation of socio-cultural data, information and understanding of local and regional culture.

Qualifications:

· The Linguist should have a Bachelor of Arts (Masters preferred) from an accredited U.S., Canadian, British or Australian University.

· The Linguist must be a US citizen and capable of acquiring a Secret clearance.

· Native language proficiency desired.

Human Terrain Research Manager​

The Human Terrain Research Manager is a member of the Human Terrain System (HTS), which is a team that will collect and analyze data from the Brigade Combat Team (BCT) and Regional Combat Team (RCT) to obtain cultural and political awareness in order to sustain and foster stabilization. The HTS project is designed to improve the gathering, interpretation, understanding, operational application and sharing of local population knowledge at the BCT and RCT and Division levels. The Human Terrain Collection Manager will integrate the human terrain collection plan with the unit intelligence collection. Will be required to carry 50+ pounds of equipment for extended periods of time, exert considerable amounts of energy and be exposed to field conditions.

Qualifications:

· Experience in the U.S. Military performing collections of HUMINT

· The ideal candidate would have achieved the rank or W-2, or O-3/4.

Social Scientist​

The Social Scientist is a member of the Human Terrain System (HTS) that will collect and analyze data from the Brigade Combat Team (BCT) and Regional Combat Team (RCT) to obtain cultural and political awareness in order to sustain and foster stabilization. The Social Scientist will provide local interpretation of socio-cultural data, information and understanding of local and regional culture. The Social Scientist will work closely with and possess similar skills as the Cultural Analyst, but with more focus on the larger region in which the target area is embedded.

Qualifications:

· The Social Scientist is required to have an MA/PhD in Cultural Anthropologist/Sociologist/Political

· The Social Scientist must be competent in Geographic Information Systems software.

· The Social Scientist have local-language ability sufficient to perform field research.

· The Social Scientist must be a US citizen and capable of acquiring a Secret clearance.

· The Social Scientist will have direct experience studying and teaching about the region, including in-region research

Research Analyst​

The Research Analyst provides elements of a Research Reach-back Cell, organized as described, to support Brigade/Regimental Combat Teams in Afghanistan and Iraq with analytical research, linguistics, cultural, ethnographic, and regional or AOR information requirements.
To compile, categorize, monitor, and maintain topical ethnographic, statistical, or other computer related data supporting a project, program or operation. Also, advise Human Terrain Team and unit staff in the conduct/management of ethnographic/social science analytical research and analysis as they relate to military operations. Perform open-source, on-line/library research as needed. Perform linguistic translation of conversations or source documents. Provide local area interpretation of socio-cultural data, information and understanding of local and regional culture

Qualifications:

· College graduate, any discipline, is required. MA/PhD, Cultural Anthropologist/Sociologist/Area Studies preferred

· Fluency in English and language appropriate to the area or local-language ability sufficient to support/perform cultural field research.

· Possess computer literacy for on-line research and desktop office applications

· Have recent/relevant experience consulting, studying or teaching about the Afghanistan or Iraq region, including in-region research travel time or previous residency

· Geospatial Information Systems (GIS)-competent or conversant is helpful.



**Initially, These positions will undergo training and preparatory actions at Fort Leavenworth, KS with a follow-on assignment to the AOR for a period up to one year. While deployed, the Collection Manager will be compensated at 72 hours per week and receive Hazardous Duty and In-Country Differential Pays. Will be required to carry 50+ pounds of equipment for long periods of time and be exposed to field conditions.
