Oppose Federal Tax Increase on Premium Cigars & Pipe Tobacco!

U.S Senate Majority Whip **** Durbin (D-IL) and Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden (D-OR), along with U.S. Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-D-08), introduced the bicameral Tobacco Tax Equity Act of 2021. The bill has been referred to the Senate Finance Committee and is co-sponsored by several other Democrats. The legislation would raise the taxes on all tobacco products to the same rate as cigarettes, and then double it! This would present a massive increase on both premium cigars and pipe tobacco.

That is terrible news to me. I own a small tobacco shop, and this business is all I have. I already pay a lot of taxes on tobacco products, land taxes, and other things. I can't understand. Why raise it any higher? I know that for the state, it will be a vast increase in funding for the economy, but who will think about the owners of small and medium-sized businesses? Many have to close because an enormous amount of taxes serve as a barrier to development. I even had to learn how to make a paystub because I became uncomfortable controlling my taxes. I hope the government will reconsider its decision.

This is news to you? This thread but started back in April. Buddy you missed the boat. Do you need to be more involved with what is going on in the cigar industry if you are serious about keeping your shop open.

As a tobacco shop owner, I assume you stay abreast of the latest hearsay and rumors concerning all things legislation. What do you see on the horizon?
 
So far, I have also only recently opened my own business, and I want to learn more about taxation in general. I understand that I am still far from working with investments and understanding all this, but at least I try to learn everything as quickly as possible. I would like to know if there are people here who use the services of consulting accountants? I know that there is a service where you can generate paystub with the help of specialists. So far, I would like to consider several options. Sorry if I'm not addressing the topic, I would like to know the opinion of people who have been in the business field for a long time
