Im about to start my coolerdoor and am searching for sp cedar. I havent found anyone in San Antonio that carries it in 1/4" and 3/8" sheets. one lumber yard said they would order it but cant give me a $ yet.
Anyway for those who have built theirs already, how much should the cedar cost and did you run into anything you can give me heads up in building it.
I've read the few sites on building one but wanted CP's opinion.

IMHO, just buy up empty cigar boxes for $1/each from a local shop. Fill em up! Plenty o' cedar :p

that was what I'm thinking of doing. I tend to go overboard and try to perfect things. Do you still get plenty of that great cedar smell I love?

That's what I did too. I did find a couple of planks at a local wookworking shop but it wasn't enough for the whole thing. I cut what I had to fit the bottom and the tray on top, then used what little was left on the sides. Then I just went down to a local cigar shop and bought a bunch of empty boxes for a buck a piece. Some of these I busted up and lined the walls with them, others I left intact to store my singles. Between all that and the full boxes I have in there, it smells plenty cedery. Better than my desktop humi, imo.

Like Horse said, the boxes that the cigars comes in will give you enough cedar for aging purposes. I now have seven coolers and all I have in them are cigars and humidifiers. You start lining the cooler with spanish cedar and all you do is lose valuable storage space.

To paraphrase a homebrewing quote:

Relax, don't worry, have a cigar! :D :D :D

Ok guys I just bought some boxes, forget the cedar lining but now I'm calling every pharmacy in town no one carries pro-gly does everyone by this stuff or just suck up the extra cost of premix?

I am with Shadow... the boxes have plenty of ceder, and Vern's matrix seems to keep everything at an even keel.

If you use Climmax you dont NEED 50/50 mix and never have to keep buying stuff except distilled to keep it right. Just MHO

It is working damned well for me!

I agree 100% with Horse and Shadow, just use the boxes that the cigars come in. No need to buy cedar.

And I also agree with Firestorm on the Climmax beads. A member of this board is the owner (Vern) and he can help you out or here is there site.
Climmax Beads
