Oprah picked this as her book of the month. I used to laugh at her book choices, now I’m scared. ??? Quite a few people believe that McCarthy is America’s best living writer of literary fiction because of books like Blood Meridian, Suttree, and Child of God.

I don’t think The Road is his best work, but it’s amazing to see that he’s finally getting recognition beyond the literary circles that love his early work.

He steals from Faulkner all the time. What’s really interesting is that he seems to be following Faulkner’s path to fame. His early books were largely ignored but are now considered to be his best work and now there’s talk of him winning the Pulitzer this year for The Road. My guess is that he’ll get it.

His interview on Oprah’s show will be his first ever-televised interview and I believe that this will be the third time he’s ever agreed to talk about his work publicly.
