I just ordered my first of these figurados (Medusa from Natural by Drew Estate) and I was just wondering if anybody has ever tried one of these. What do you think and just to sound stupid do you smoke it as one or seperate the three pieces and smoke seperately?

I smoked a Davidoff culebra once years ago. A normal culebra is usually 3 panatellas braided together, the medusa look smore like 3 corona gordas braided together. Should be interesting.. let us know.

Just smoked one third of one of the Davidoff Culebras I salvaged from my almost pass :(

It was good, but pretty light on smoke, due to size. The normal custom is to find two people you can stand being in a room with for at least 1/2 hr. , split the thing up, and smoke it with them.

I'd say to hell with it and smoke the whole thing yourself :)

I've only had the Partagas Culebra
I want the "A" sized one. :)

Here's some interesting info I found elsewhere on Culebras:

he Culebra is from an old tradition in the 1800's. When the cigar rollers worked in the factory, they were allowed to smoke cigars while they worked. They were encouraged to smoke damaged or defective cigars (for obvious reasons). However, when the day was done, they were allowed to take only 3 or 4 cigars home with them. These cigars were intentionally defective in that they were twisted. The reason? If they got caught with the "Good Stuff" (read straight cigars) they were immediately suspected of stealing "good" cigars. Each roller would make up his own 3 cigars each day. And, many of these rollers would blend the tobacco to their taste.

I have seen them..but never bought 1..thought it was a gimmick like the "egg" cigar until I read Moki's post. The only one I have seen on a regular basis is the Drew Estate Medusa.

I am not sure it is worth the cost or the trouble to smoke a crooked cigar, not sure how the draw would be on these.

not sure about the Medusa but the draw on the Partagas is very good

oak, bigHD and myself smoked one a while back....there should be pics and an account if you search.

I heard a different story moki - I read somewhere (forget where) that rollers were allowed to take home one cigar per day at the end of their shift so they got inventive and braided 3 cigars together to make the culebra which was 'one cigar'.

That actually makes more sense to me. Who knows, could be a combination of both. :)

I got one in a trade with Tony Bones but have not smoked yet. Still showing it around the club. The box is cute and a conversation piece. I may not ever smoke the thing unless I get another.

Wow, great info guys. I was having difficulty imagining lighting and smoking all three as one cigar.

I'll definitely review it here after I get to burn it.

It's a gimmick? I was thinking of trying this one next.....

I read the same info about the twisting of the cigars. The good product was placed in boxes for shipment, but sometimes the workers would replace a good one with their straight defective product. To keep the workers from replacing good for defective, the bad ones were twisted together so it would be totally obvious if switched.
I have never had one, I guess I prefer the larger ring sizes, and also think that the draw might be affected by the twisting.

my .02 cents

I heard that the factory owners and managers came up with it, and it goes somthing like this............They (the owners and managers) told the rollers to do this and that it was there allowance for the day to smoke so that the rollers did not sit and smoke the good quality market smokes. These were origanly rolled with scrap leaf.

So I hear it.......
