That calls for a serious can of Whoop A*s! I talk a bit to the person to gage their suitability to smoke a great cigar. I know that makes me a snob but it sets me off to see that happen. I have a good Family friend that likes his Merlot with Diet Pepsi so I always have some Two Buck Chuck Melot on hand for him and he is never offended as he knows our Family is serious wine drinkers.

I hand out cigars to acquaintances based on their seriousness/knowledge of cigars. If someone has little or no experience, I hand over a decent middle-of-the-road stick that I think they will enjoy. How the first cigar is treated will dictate subsequent cigars (if any).

My father has a poker game that he regularly attends, and I usually give them my loose ends/junk smokes -- you know, damaged smokes, weird random stuff, etc. Most of them smoke about half, say they're getting nauseous or feel like their head is in the clouds, and lay it down.
Well, we hosted the game one night, and I was dealing for them. A couple of them were smoking some cigars I had given them, and were raving about how good they were (laugh, if they only knew). Well, one of the guys asked if he could have one, so I told him he could. Since I was dealing, I just told him to get one from the top shelf of my smaller humidor. Admittedly, the room was rather noisy, and he claims he didn't hear my correctly-- he got into my personal large humidor and nabbed a VSG sorcerer, not knowing what it was. He cut it and lit it up before I could realize/question what he had.
Fortunatley, though he smoked the whole thing and said he loved it. He know is a small-time cigar smoker with a small 50 ct. desk humidor, set up by yours truly.
There is the other side to the this, Hillbilly! Accidentally gift a great smoke to a friend, and he joins the brotherhood.
