They are priced within $3.00 of each other here in Tucson.
Rare Breed is more consistent but the Elijah Craig is better if you get a good cask behind it.
Maybe this is a stupid question, but how would I go about getting one from a good cask? Were there good and bad years of production?

You don't know. Being a single barrel means that there are about 250-275 bottles per barrel sometimes less so a number of barrels are bottled with some just being better then others IMO.
X2 - "Plain Old" WT is a "go to" sipping beverage here but I may have to pick up an Elijah Craig next time I'm by the store.....I love WTRB however I've never seen/heard of Elijah Craig 18. I have a new Bourbon to find now.
