Fake Monte #2 from DR?

I am newbee to this forum, but I have been a cigar smoker for many years. For at least the last 7-10 years I have been fortunate to obtain my cigars from Asia and a few years ago, my ex-wife went to Cuba on a missionary trip and her whole group bought me back a dozen boxes of Monte #2 and churchills. Recently I found myself down to my last few. I have been searching online for a decent, non-wallet busting replacement. I was told that the Monte#2 from the DR should be OK.
This is where I need everyone's professional opinion.
I bought a box of Monte#2 DR from niceashcigars.com. when the box arrived I found that these cigars came a box that had them stacked on 3 layers instead of 2. I compared the ring size of these cigars and found that they are much smaller than the 50 ring that they should be. The most that they are is a 48, but more likely a 46 ring. The cigar is has a funny taper to them. Before I accuse the retailer of selling me fakes, I would like to know what everyone thinks.
I have photos of the cigar and box if anyone can help.
Thanks

Glad to see you got this topic in the right forum.

I'm with Gonz; I can't see why anyone would want to fake a NC either. But I guess if you can make the box for $15 and sell it for $200, then you made a huge margin on the deal. So who knows ... I bet some people sell fake cubans in places where they are legal too.

I guess even in this scenario the phrase, "Know your source" applies. I have never done business with the retailer you mentioned, so I cannot comment on his products. And I don't really smoke Montecristos so, I'm no help there either. GL.

This seems like an old story to me, even though it was published today. What is relevant is the second paragraph: "some even pretending to be authentic Cubans", which I take to mean that there has been seizures of non-cuban counterfiet cigars as well.
