Anyone know any good spots in the northeast to hit up in the next few weeks?

Hawk Mountain, near Hamburg, PA. This is prime migratory season for many birds of prey, and the sights (both birds and the trees) are something special. I hope to make it up there sometime this month to enjoy it all. While you're at it, might as well visit Cabela's. Not too far from each other, and an awesome store if you are into that kind of stuff. You can google Hawk mountain and find out more info if you want. Good luck!

From one Louie to another Louie... here's where you need to go, the Mohonk Mountain House. This resort is located 6 miles west of New Paltz on the ridge of the Shawangunk mountains. You hike up to the top of the mountain that is above the resort and climb to the top of the old observation tower. This is an absolutely spectacular view. I don't know what the cost is for a day. Here is the link. Have a good time  .

Eye Witness Report:

I just returned from a day and a half of traveling around Northern Vt. and New Hampshire. The trees are confused. Abnormally warm temps, hasn't been a killing frost, and lack of rainfall are producing a lack-luster performance. To be honest it's one of the worst seasons in my memory, and the last two haven't been that great. I went to some of my favorite spots and I was very disappointed. Don't believe what the tourist industry might be saying. It's not like me to look out for flatlanders, but...

Doc.

Heck he might as well visit the "Yingling" brewery in Pottsville if he drives up that far... and I agree 100% with you (being a PA boy bred and true) that that area is awesome in the fall.

Here is some PA related links regarding what your looking for LouieNY
