So I found singles of a few different Forbidden X's for $40 each. I have been dying to get my hands on one of these and wasn't sure if it was worth it. I've heard a couple different things about them, one that they have been discontinued. Is there any truth to that? Either way should I pull the trigger for $40? Thanks for the advice guys.

Check this thread for MSRPs so you can determine how much you're overpaying. Then it's your decision. It really does you no good to know if people here would buy it or not. Someone always will at that price and many others wouldn't touch it if it's a high markup...

Can your wallet afford it is the only question. :)

Whether they are worth it none of us can answer for you, only you an answer that question for yourself knowing you own level of comfort in parting with your money. I don;t think they will be discontinued as long as Casa is open. Maybe a size or more likely a packaging method may go away but the forbidden X will continue to be made. If anything I woul expect them to expand the lineup.

My personal opinion is no way in hell they are worth it, but that's just me.

Cheers

I checked the Opus/Anejo reference and they don't have MSRP's for Forbidden X. Are they usually close to MSRP on a regular Opus? What about at Casa Fuente? I know some people that are going to Vegas soon, and have considered that an option, too.

Forbidden X isn't for everyone. Neither is Opus nor Padron's nor DCM's. I can make the list go on and on but only YOUR wallet and taste can justify if they are worth it. Now from my personal opinion...are they worth it? Yes, to ME. Its what I enjoy. You on the other hand may hate them. I have no problem torching a $60 cigar.

As for Casa Fuente...you better take out a house loan first. If you have problems shelling out $20 to $40 a stick, then the prices at Casa Fuente isn't for you. Because the Forbidden there is $60 to $125 a stick.

As for the question you answered. If you get that box at MSRP of $150 and divide it by 4 then you have $37.50. So is $40 a stick reasonable? I answer yes and now you have to figure out if you can shell out the money and smoke it to see if the purchase was worth it or not.

LOL
Way out of my pay-grade...
Thank god there are lots of great 8 to 10 dollar sticks out there...

Like Mr. Peat, I don't have a problem with torching a $60 cigar. I do have a big problem buying one though. What something is "worth" is entirely your decision.

I'm sure a lot of people (AVB and Mr. Peat for example), including myself will always tell (or atleast imply) you, don't let price be a factor in trying out a smoke.

The work that goes into creating a hand made super premium justifies the high end (most of them) premiums.

Think of it this way. You can spend anywhere from $10 to well over $1,000 for a shirt. The $1,000 shirt certainly isn't 100x better than the $10 shirt. Same thing with cars...

So from one perspective, no cigar is ever worth $40. However worth is very relative. As a special occasion smoke, maybe it's worth it to you.

Thanks so much guys I really appreciate the advice. I'm leaning toward getting one, but still need ot think on it a little. I usually don't let price become in issue to me, but shelling out $40 for a single makes me want to be positive, especially being in college. One last question. What to they compare to in taste, body, etc. Thanks so much, I really feel humbled to have the opinions of such respected members on this issue.

The price of the cigar doesn't make it good although many us THINK an expensive stick should or will have a taste relative to it's price.

If you cannot afford the cigar, don't buy it. On the other hand if you don't buy it you will never know what it taste like. So you have a dilemma! ???

Good luck.

If you really like Fuente products, especially Opus, then it's worth a try IMO, if nothing else it satisfies your curiosity.

They taste like slightly smoother Opus, with a bit of a different taste profile. The wrapper is from the same plant, just sun grown instead of shade, and the tobacco has been cured differently.*

* I'm speaking of just the black-banded Forbidden X cigars that come in the Uno, Dos, Tres set... other cigars have been called "Forbidden X cigars" and have a different blend.

I wish I could help but I am probably one of the few who have not smoked an OPUS. As the threads indicate here, it really is your call. I can only say if you can afford it give it a try to get it out of the way. I have not done so because there are so many other good ones that enjoy and I have not gotten around yet to try it. Whatever you decide, enjoy!!

Thanks for the advice guys, it looke like I'm going to go for it. Are there any other hard to find smokes that might be a better buy for the money?
