My wife's about to give her notice at work, and she's asked my help in drafting a resignation letter. I've been looking online and found lots of great information about how to professionally and efficiently do so, as well as some example resignation letters where she just has to fill in the details.

Everywhere I looked has cautioned against living out your fantasy of the day you get to quit the job you hate and tell off your boss, but just for fun I thought I'd ask around here to see if anyone has any good/fun stories about quitting a job. Anyone tell off your boss and have it bite you in the ass after the fact?

Of course my wife won't be doing anything crazy or go into it with the intention of burning any bridges, but has anyone here done that?

Back when I was still in high school I used to work as a gas station as a clerk. One night the owner was just on a rampage and start swearing up a storm as us for something that wasn’t even related to us. Suffice to say I shared a few kind words of my own and ended it with you can take this job and shove it up your…. I’ve used him as a reference and I guess he didn’t say anything bad about me, probably because he knew he would out of line. At the same token at the same place one of the gals I worked with quite, ripped off her company shirt threw it at the owner and stormed out in just her bra, later that year she was in an issue of playboy.

I had warehouse job loading trucks in college, had a dick of a night manager on the power trip (we all know the type). Well, i managed to get most of the people on the shift pissed off enough where we warned the manager to stop being a jerk or we would all walk. well, next night, same crap, we all decided to walk out at lunch. well, we were leaving for lunch and the manager was at the door, telling all of us not to be late coming back, i shook his hand and said " you look hungry, want me to bring you back something? he replies "sure, i am starving!" needless to say, he remained hungry that evening. All of us who walked went to breakfast which lasted a few hours, no one went back.

edit for clarification

Have her try this.

Dear Chuck Buttlick,

This is to formally notify you that I am resigning from Matt's Butt Plugs Inc. as Chief inspector.
I regret to inform you that today will be my last day of employment.
I wish the company would go to pieces and hope one day you too will realise that you cannot manage your way out of a paper bag.

Sincerely,

Once when I was ready to leave a job...

About 2 weeks before I actually resigned I would walk into his office and sniff around like I smelled something foul. Even when I saw him in the hallway or in another meeting I just kept on sniffing. Then when it came time to resign he asked me why I was sniffing so much, and I told him...

I smell DUMB! Can you smell it? sniff, sniff, unmistakably DUMB!

I was working a very weird gig at a huge court-reporting agency 3-4 years ago. I'd been there from about 2 months and I was offered a MUCH better job.

The thing is they day of my interview, which I had taken off from work using the excuse of a DR appointment, I woke up with the Chicken Pox (which is highly unpleasant at 26 years old.) and after nailing the interview I went to the Doctor who have me a note saying I had to take 2-weeks off. I faxed the note to my manager, called him and said, "Yeah, I've got the chicken pox. I can't work for 10 business days, also consider this my two weeks notice. thanks."

I then found out that the owner of the new company had never had the chicken pox... I of course and shook his hand etc during the interview and I was terrified that he would contract them and withdraw the offer out of spite... Thankfully that didn't happen.

Dear Sirs;

I hereby tender my resignation effective in 2 weeks. The reason I have to leave your employ due to personality problems with Mr. Smith.

I have some and he doesn't.

Sincerely,

John Worker

Another mandatory overtime with no warning because the owner's nephew did not come in ... again ...

Me: No F*@%ing way, I can't stay because of some worthless P.O.S. F#ck This I quit!!!
Him: Don't come back your fired!

I beat him by a few seconds.

Something so liberating about leaving like that. I need to get a second BS job just so I can leave it in style too.

Here's my notice to any boss of any kind I have ever had!!

Too many good stories on this matter to post in one thread in just one night! :whistling:

Yeah...One time I managed to get into trouble WHILE I was on vacation. They said they had to write me up because I didn't do my job. I was like what the f*** you mean I didn't do my job as I was on vacation so I wasn't at the place in the first place. They insisted they had to write me up knowing they had approved my vacation and I was gone. That didn't make any sense to me so I went home and typed up my 2 week notice. I then sealed it in an envelope and always carried it with me to work.

So one day I managed to get into trouble again and they said they had to write me up. I told them to do it. I dare you to do it and I said oh by the way and the boss said what like a ignorant fat bastard he was. I said here is my 2 week notice. They shit their pants and I rode my 2 weeks out basically doing nothing and got paid for it. I was getting like $6 an hour at a major hospital then and 40 hours a week so I transferred to the lower campus of the University working on Projectors and what not for $10 an hour and 20 hours a week. Oh that job was so easy and a lot less stress as I could work my 20 hours any time I wanted. If I wanted to do 3 hours after Midnight I as I had no set schedule to do my work. :D
