Good luck, teachers!

Well, after a fantastic summer with my wife and son, it is time for me to bid adieu to relaxation and head back in to work tomorrow full steam.  I smoked a Davidoff 2000 tubo to commemorate the end and beginning of another year.  Now I'm kicking back on the couch and enjoying some Knob Creek as I get my mind set for the insanity that will be tomorrow.
 
So to any of you out there who are also teachers I say to you: good luck, stay healthy, and most of all don't forget to make it your mission to do it for the kids.  SO much of the adversity we face throughout the year comes from outside the classroom.  Do everything you can to instill the passion for learning in at least one student everyday.  I'll see you all out there on the playing field.

We started on August 24th here . . . so far it's a good year.  I've got some new instructional pieces I'm excited about, and a mandatory curriculum I'm a little less thrilled by.  Oh, and I'm now the English 2 testing data leader. Hoo buddy.

Theres nothing more discouraging at times than the words "Mandatory Curriculum."  At least it can drive us to be more creative with what we do have to teach.

Good luck to all of you, some have more difficult situations than others.  My wife is a Speech Pathologist in the Special School District for Pre-schoolers and she went back early in August.  Crank it up and good luck.

Well, I've been teaching a long time, and I've always designed my own units.  So at first I was like "Oh, you already did all the work for me? Sure!" but three weeks in I can already see that the main flaw with the new curriculum is it was written by the AP teachers.  MY kids can't go that fast! So I'm having to break it down into chunks and rewrite half of it anyway.   ???
