Of course, there are many, but 2 come to mind...

Once when I was supposed to sign a legal document with my name and write the words "by law" in the given space...I spazzed and wrote "buy law" instead. I'm sure the lawyer thought I was an idiot. Then they made me sign another piece of paper that said I really meant "by law"...in my defense, until I signed it was all verbal.....perhaps a little bit ambiguous.

Before you read the 2nd one, you should know that my first name is "Joseph", but I've gone by "Joe" since forever. My "signature" is my name, written in cursive (but always "Joe", never "Joseph"). Of course, the house closing documents were all in my full legal name....and my hand just naturally wants to write jay-oh-ee....it's hard to change in midstream to jay-oh-ess....

The 2nd one has achieved legendary status in the lexicon of family stories. I spelled my own name wrong when I signed it during our house closing. When the closing company representative hassled me a little about it, I said something like "well, that's not really my signature anyway, it's just me writing in cursive, my full legal name, I don't recognize that as my signature."...ha, ha, ha...yeah the joke was on me. There was about a 45 minute pause in the closing while they had a conference with their lawyers...we waited. My wife really appreciated my smart mouth and had no problem telling me...over and over...while we waited.

Finally, they agreed to let me "write my full name" on all their documents provided I sign another set of documents indicating that it is really me, I'm the same person and both of these "signatures" are legally binding....by then I just couldn't resist a parting shot, so I asked for a piece of blank paper to "practice" writing my name and they all stood around waiting while I wrote my full name in cursive over and over....What should have taken 20 minutes took an hour and a half.

Whenever my wife tells this story, it starts with "Oh, that's nothing, Joe had to practice signing his own name during our house closing...".

There is another great story about how I spent 3 penniless days in the Madrid train stating begging for food because I conjugated the verb "to lose" incorrectly....
