I picked a few of these up recently from Matt (Mmburtch) and decided to try one this evening. I’ve actually been really looking forward to smoking one of these as I haven’t had one from ’06, only from ’07 and have really enjoyed the ones smoked so far. I notice the band on this ’06 is completely different than the ’07 I have, so went and did a little research and it seems there’s actually three different bands for these. The 2008 however now all have a second band with Mag 46 on them. I actually like the old band better myself. I also notice the ’06 wrapper is much darker than the ’07, which isn’t unusual on Cuban cigars.

There’s noticeable oil on the wrapper with a patchwork of veins throughout. It has a small amount of give when squeezed, a very good weight in the hand, and with the well-constructed cap punched I find a perfect draw. I grabbed my trusty Zippo and torched the foot and got the burn going good, and then a long draw.

A perfect spice hits the back of the tongue and throat with the smoke itself a good medium body. Tastes of a rich, dark coffee came through with cocoa, earth, and a very nice woodiness. There was also a delicious sweetness in the smoke that was fantastic. The finish was incredibly good, long and lasting on the palate.

The burn was sharp with a strong medium gray ash that held until ashed about every inch or so. Smoke flowed effortlessly from the perfect draw, continuing to be a good medium body with a spot on spice and excellent, rich flavors. The finish was simply fantastic.

What an incredible smoke! A sharp burn with strong ash, perfect draw, rich delicious flavors with a excellent finish that lasted long after exhaling. I’m glad I still have a couple of these left and hope that the ’07 batch I have, with enough down time, turn out to be as good as these. Thanks Matt!

Very nice, Greg . . . wish I had jumped on those but I'm happy with the '03 Sir Winnies!! :whistling:

I have 20 or so left from a box of '07's that are smoking pretty dang well right now. Hope they turn out like your's.

I tell ya, this thing was like a Mini Winnie! :D

I'm happy for you then, because the Sir Winnie I had was freaking spectacular!!

Greg, the '06 46 you have has the freckles I talked about on the RyJ Ex. #2. What are those dark spots? I haven't really noticed them before.

I'm thinking just imperfections in the wrapper, nothing to worry about.

Nice review Greg (those with the new band look familiar to me :sign: )
About the difference in color of the wrappers, I've seen 2 boxes of MC Sublimes LE 2008 one box beautifully oily dark wrapper, the other box pale brown! (At my local B&M)

I prefer the old band too.. and all of the old Mags 46 that I smoked were delicious.
The new ones are not bad as well, but I can't call them exceptional.
