I spoke with Les Drent, the owner and founder of Kauai Cigar Co. and he has asked me to pass along a request for action with regards to Hawaii House Bill 895 which would "increase the wholesale tobacco tax on cigars to 85% (and ultimately 105% by 2011)." He is asking that you visit his site www.kauaicigar.com and sign a petition to oppose or amend HB 895 to exclude cigars from the tax increase or at least place a per cigar cap on any cigar sold at wholesale in Hawaii. There is a possibility that sale of cigars in Hawaii will become impossible due to the cost involved.

Feel free to make your own determination and respond by petition (yes, even if you live in another state:

There is a time constraint on this by tomorrow, 3/29/09 by 1 PM PST.

Thanks for reading!

Regretfully, as we're not citizens of Hawaii, our letters would make the round file - unless we write as a potential tourists.
