I'm just 2 people short of a threesome
Just joined and thought I'd jump in and say hi.
Hi!
I've been reading this board for the past few days, and the generosity of everyone here blows my mind - both in the wealth of information shared, and the camaraderie that this guilty pleasure seems to invoke from all involved. I read the FAQ's, newbie guidelines, and a bunch of threads with pointers on what to do when starting out here (I even remembered some of it!), and I hope I'm doing OK so far.
I've had a desktop humidor for a while, but it's being used for storing my various remotes in <ducks from incoming dog-rockets>. Truth is that it belonged to my grandfather and it's a little beat up, being older than me, but it's actually quite restorable as it's just the exterior and finish that worn - so at the very least I've got a future project on my hands
Anyway, I was cleaning the weekend before last and after picking it up I had this very sudden urge to head down to the tobacco shop down the block from me and get myself something "real". Actually I was just interested in getting a decent cigar because last week marked a major milestone in my life (personal, but you'll hear about it soon I'm sure). I wasn't going to get anything major, but he had a sweet looking limited edition Cuesta-Rey desktop for $50 (like this one , but all black and quite sexy if I may say so).
Being an ignorant newbie, I let him give me a cheap bundle and a Cohiba Corona Crystal tubo. The bundle turned out to be mostly garbage can fodder (I've already tossed a number of them, and the one's I haven't smoked are going to go to the non-cigar-smoking friends at the next poker game
), but the Cohiba was so good that I went out and dropped more cash on some various singles after doing a little research on a few sites. I picked up a Fuente 8-5-8 (Medium Brown), Romeo Y Julieta 1875: Cedro Deluxe No. 1, and a Cohiba Corona Natural. Had a bad experience with the Cedro, but the 8-5-8 blew me away (the Cohiba was good as well, but not as flavorful as the Crystal).
After seeing the plug for the Chateau Fuente 5 pack in these forums, I put in an order - how can you beat $22 with free shipping? I also ordered some of those miracle beads from Viper that people seem to love (He answered e-mail at 11 PM last night - what a class act!). Being impatient, I decided to head over to el shoppe again after work, and picked up a few Fuente Breva Royals (smoked one before - they're not too bad, especially near the end. I'm thinking good enough for the every-day smoke at that price, but I'm sure I'll be shown something better by the gurus here soon enough), picked up another 8-5-8 (got the maduro this time), a C.A.O. Maduro Tubo NO. 1 (that smells like it's going to be nice), and a Maduro Chateau Fuente.
I just finished the Chateau as I began writing this, and I'm still feeling woozy as I type - what a great escape from reality, and to think this is only the tip of the iceberg! I also just sent in an e-mail to sign up for CigarPool. Sheesh, just over a week and look what I'm doing already - What have I gotten myself into?
