There was, I believe, a thread on here recently that summed up a taste testing that compared ratings of cigars when they had the band on vs. when they were smoked without the band. It came up that the brazilia was the closest while padron was quite far of, and therefore highly reliant on the name brand/band.
I desperately need to find this again for a paper and has tried search for like 30 minutes with no avail.
If anyone knows what I'm talking about PLEASE help, it will be very much appreciated.
Chris

Here ya go

http://www.evilsmiley.com/cigars/bandedvsnot.rtf <--- if you want to download the wordpad document with nice easy to read formatting

http://www.evilsmiley.com/cigars/bandedvsnot.txt <--- if you want to view it online without formatting (kind of looks like a mess)

Hope this helps you out man, sorry I didn't have a scanner!

Edited to say:
Everyone should check this article out, it is about banded vs unbanded testing and really is quite the eye opener and just an excellent article all around.

Amusing test... can't say I'm that surprised that the results vary with the bands on/off.

However, I also bet you that if they sent the exact same cigars without bands to the same testers... twice in a row... they'd get different results too.

Maybe even MORE amusing... ever put primo bands on not so expensive sticks? You'd be surprised how easy it is to pick out the poseurs during that one. It was fun.
