I am trying to identify an outstanding Scotch whisky I had in a bar in Zurich last week based on nothing more than a bar receipt and a fuzzy memory of the bottle our server was kind enough to leave on the table for us.

For comparison, I can list the price of a couple others we had. The first was a Macallan 12 yr, 4 cl, $18.

The next was just identified on the receipt as Macallan Cad, 4 cl, $65.

Finally, the one I'm looking for was listed as Glendron Cad, 4 cl, $75.

Any idea what that, specifically, might be?

As to your question, I would guess that it was a William Cadenhead bottling of Glendronach. Which one can't be determined with the information you provided. There has been a 12 yo Sherry casked and a 13 yo high strength (~128 proof) bourbon casked released in the last few years. Based on your other choices I would lean toward the sherry cask one but the price you were charged is far more then that should have brought. It might have been the 1970 one but who knows. As I said, without more info it is impossible to figure out which one it may have been.

x2 with what AVB said

It was definitely a Glendronach but which one I'm not sure. Perhaps it was the 30 year old but the Cad on the receipt definitely points to a Cadenhead bottling...that is quite a price at $75 a glass btw.

AVB and GregSVT - thanks very much for the welcome and your insight on the Glendronach. From what I gather that does indeed sound like one I'd be partial to (my regular Scotch at home is Macallan 18-yo). Now to the task of sampling various bottles.

Thanks again.
