Good fuel which does NOT include the Ronson crap you can get at the grocery store, and purging the tank of your lighter every time you get ready to refill it seem to do the trick. I use a small screwdriver blade to depress the fill valve and fully empty the tank prior to refills. 'Bout all it takes to keep them running happy....
Blowing compressed air across the top of the lighter should clear it of any ash that falls into the burner area. Just blow lightly and keep the nozzle a few inches away.
Ditto what others have said: bleed the tank before you fill it each time, and use good fuel. Lava and Vector seem to perform the best in my experience.
Other than what has been said,I tend to keep the tip and top portion clean.Blowing compressed air on the top clears out dust and particals and what-not.This keeps the flame at full force.
