Brothers, I have a 28 quart cooler. I have two stats that don't calibrate and would like to move up to something better that won't break the bank.

Your suggestions please. Would go as far as $100. Even consider used if one of you is looking to move up

Thanks, to Monk who corrected my need, looking for a hygrometer.

**** NOTE: with the collaboration of the MadMonk and search work on the web, the two of us have found a unit at least worth mention. If you like, please review http://www.premiereproducts.biz/products/4380.php. Two things make this interesting, it is NIST certified and this is also $20 less expensive that other identical models.

Thanks all for your input, and thank you MadMonk.

George, in a cooler I'm dealing with if it cool cycles, humidity of the house, does the heat come on, outdoor humidity. I want to know what's going on in there, which I don't know right now. My stats or $15 ones, I'd like to feel the real love is why I want a decent night stat. Some of the guys here have $300 units, I just want to be on the caucious side. Thanks for your input.

Are you trying to adjust humidity (Humidistat) or take a humidity reading (Hygrometer)?

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I have the one Michael suggest also, but have since purchased several of these, cheaper and very accurate (non adjustable):

You got me Monk, just want to see what my humidity is. Right now I seem to be damp. I keep playing the lite and relite game.

Quick answer would be Western Caliber. I check / calibrate with Bovedas. Decent and inexpensive.

I've been looking for better solutions for years. I have the Staebell system, and it has been pretty good, but I would like some sort of reliable redundancy.

First and foremost, learn to get tactile feedback for how a properly humidified cigar feels.
I always look at the tolerances of the meters. Some are +/- 2% rh, some +/- 4% rh, etc. Even bovedas have a tolerance. So, regardless of reading, and calibrating, how do the cigars feel.

You would think that something as basic and required as a hygrometer would have some degree of research and consumer feedback built up. I've never found anything substantial beyond Amazon Reviews, which have to be read with a discerning eye.

I've been looking at some and only considering those with NIST Certification. About 80 bucks entry level depending on included paperwork, etc. Thermoworks offers some. So does Extech. At some point, I'll make up my mind which one I buy.
