Idea for Pass

If you can believe it I have three local rollers here in Sacramento, CA. Once I received from a BOTL a sample of a locally rolled cigar from his area. That got me to thinking . . .

I was thinking of a pass with only local rolled cigars that one would never have the oppotunity of trying unless you were in that city. Initially I thought of buying a bunch of local smokes and starting a pass where participants took one of mine and put one of theirs. However, I would be the only one getting a really nice selection from around the country. My second though was to have all people interested people sign up and then send out a couple of the local sticks to everyone on the list. With the exception of postage I think this would be more practical .

Has something like this ever been done before? Any better ideas for this type of pass? Comments? Suggestions? What do you all think?

Jason,

My suggestion is to do a normal Pass and have a grab bag of locale sticks go along for the ride. The pass follows the normal rules while the grab bag is a 1 for 1 with no price attached. Each locale stick would would be accompanied with the info on where you buy the stick from.

That seems to be a good solution. Unfortunately I don't think I am ready to host a "real" pass. I will look at my collection and see. Maybe a "working mans" pass like Emo does with mid-grade sticks. I could probably do that.

I will post here later.

Thanks for the idea.

A lot of B&M have thier own blended cigars rolled for them. A few have a roller on staff. I'm think JAEwing is just talking about getting those blends that only that store has. Don't need to have a roller right there.

Exactly. Something that you an get nowhere else . . . not even online because it is so local.

Here we have Cassillas, Cardenas and on other ex-Cuban roller that roll for their local stores. I had one that was the same shape and similar flavor as the AF Short Story.

So maybe I will put together a pass with regular cigars and put in it half a dozen of each local blend for a one-for-one trade out in addition to the regular pass.

It will have to wait a week or so and another BOTL has offered to co-host the pass. Once I have a chance to PM and talk about it a bit more we will post here.

I did a Google search for cigar parties, and came up with these guys in Lexington. If they host cigar parties they should be able to point you toward a local roller.
