Well until next year!

You see I just finished coaching my daughters 10 U softball team, and yesterday was our last game! We won 6-0! We didn't do all that bad 5-12-1. We ended up in 5th place out of 7 teams ( only a half game out of 4th). I am so proud of the girls as we lost 4-5 games by 1 run. They never quit! Coaching little girls softball is not as easy as one might think. They get very emotional and you have to talk to them in a sensitive manner or the tears will break out! This was my first year, and as I didn't start out as the coach, I took the team over the third game in. The 2 mothers that were coaching the team just got in over thier head and we were losing games by 15 + runs. So I stepped up and said hey, let me help! Well they just handed me the ropes...LOL!
After 1 week of practice we won our first game, the girls were so happy! Even though we didn't have a winning record we were competitive with the 2 teams filled with allstars. Well After the game yesterday they got even with me by sneaking up behind me and dumping ice water on me! Wow... it was a warm 98 degress and I'll tell you it was quite a shock! It was a very exhausting, time consuming 2 1/2 months ( 2 practices and 2 games a week + a full time job, raising a 9 and a 15 yr old alone and taking care of my sick Mom) and I'm glad it's over... but I am going to miss it and all the girls! The girls improved there skills and enjoyed all the practices, so I decided last night as I smoked a 98 Partagas tres petite corona and sipped on a celebratory Red Hook, that I am going to do it next year from the get go!

"WE GOT SPIRIT... YES WE DO... WE GOT SPIRIT.... HOW ABOUT YOU?" LOL....

ohh man!

That is great...glad to hear you're going in to a second season. :D

Your story seems real similiar to one I saw and posted on over at CF...any connection ??? ???? just wondered... :)

I know the feeling. My wife talked me into being an Assistant coach for my sons soccer team 2 years ago. Well I showed up to the meeting and they said, tag, you're it. At the end of the year I was talked into taking the ref's course and helping at the state games as an assistant ref. This year I took the bull by the horns. I center refed 2-3 games a week, on top of the 2 practices and 1 game I coached, plus reffing in the state games again.
This year because I got a promotion and a transfer I only get to ref part time becuase my ship is underway for 6-8 weeks at a time. I'll miss the little buggers. :( Hats off to ya for stepping up to the plate and hitting a homer! Communities definately need more youth volunteers .

good deal cs those girls will always have something great to look back on (just remember when you were young)

just one thing you need to tell them:

Tom Hanks "theres no crying in baseball! theres no crying in baseball!" (or softball too)

:sign: :sign: :sign: :sign:  :)

LOL Jason! I need to get that video and watch it again!
The girls gave me a t-shirt with there team photo on the front, yesterday at the awards pizza party! Each girl signed it and put thier nember on the back. The team Mom said it was the girls idea! It also said " Thanks Mike for everything you taught us"! I got a lump in my throat... there's no crying in baseball damit!  LMAO!

Well... I now have some free time for cigars again!

CohibaSurfer....kudos for steppin' up and helpin' out! I'm sure the girls will remember it for quite a long time. Good luck next season also. It's always a good feeling when kids tell you they appreciate what you have done for them.

Good job!

Mike...I know where you are comming from brother. We finished up tonight with a 21-3 win for our League Tornament Championship, placed second in regular season. This is my second season as a girls softball coach + Managing my sons T-Ball team (Mon. through Sat. spent at the ball fields since the first of April). Nicole is 9 and plays with 8-12 yo. girls, gets kinda rough sometimes.
Happy to see ball season come but even happier to see it go.

Next...Soccer Season.(4th year as coach)

Congrats Edgar on the successful season, even more on your dedication to the kids! we will have to talk about your secrets of success some time :)

Thanks for the Kudos brother SKYDIVNEKD! Even though we didn't win the championship or even come close..LOL .. It was rewarding for me. I'll see next year if it is a newly found passion or a 1 hit wonder..LOL!
