James Suckling from CA has a blog and commented on some of the new regional releases coming out...

Cuba is really pumping out this concept...which is a good thing, but does the blend/taste suffer? Is there enough quality leaf to go around to make these cigars something special.

Aging alone doesn't make a lousy, tasteless cigar any better...it just makes it an older, lousy, tasteless cigar.

Wow... 31? And from this thread there were seventeen proposed last year. And they still haven't gotten all of 2008s to market yet. The RE concept is cool, but maybe make sure you can fill one year's proposed list before trying to double it.

That being said...

Bolivar - Germany - Especiales No.2 – 38 x 192 - Delicados :drooooool:

The only smoke on the list under a 46 RG.

If one is interested in Cubans, then Suckling's blog is worth reading all the time! :D The comments can also be highly illuminating.

I think RE's are primarily a good way to fight counterfeiters and grey market imports (and, of course, make more money - especially from suckers who will pay more just because the cigars have a band with their country's name on it - not that I would know anyone like that :whistling: ).

I would guess that most importers don't specify a special blend. (The Mexican Conde 109 being a known, and notable, exception.) You're probably just getting a different size in a numbered (usually) SLB.

Myself, I'm not buying into it this year (I tell myself  ). Mind you, I've already suckered myself into wanting the Siglo VI Reserva ...
